  1. @flaxx The first few years are always annoying, but they're important for getting a degree of economical independence so you don't have to worry about what'll happen if you don't get work for a month or two and can be a bit more picky with jobs.

  2. @flaxx Right on. Good luck with that.

  3. @flaxx Not great. Mental health issues, leaving work early because I can't sit in my cubicle without going into stress convulsions. But, I'm leaving work early, so I've got that going for me. How've you been?

  4. @flaxx Oh, yeah, maiya's account is on another instance. You won't see her on public unless you're subscribed, but you should be able to see all of it from context. I agree that CAD is really boring, but it's a decent enough job for making money and practice. You can show architectural models to a studio to apply for a scenario modelling position and work your way from there.

  5. @nerthos @flaxx As an aside, I really adore how I can be more productive than many of these e-beggars when I have a chronic terminal illness that was supposed to kill me 15 years ago and make a mere fraction of what they do.  The power of that emotional appeal when you have anything resembling a platform is monumental.  Emotional blackmail.

  6. @flaxx Well that's worth something. Having a team you can work with decently is half the way there.

  7. @flaxx If all else fails you can claim you got cancer while developing and that's why updates don't come out, and beg for more money.

  8. @nerthos @flaxx Most money I ever made on a contract when I was freelancing my various skills after 'retiring' due to my injury from the police, was with a local home-building firm.  (Almost 40k for a month of work).  And they're not even the top of that totem pole.

  9. @maiyannah @flaxx This. Forgot about it, but it's actually a really good job. Architects, surveyors, and other related professionals tend to hire people to do all the CAD and modelling since it's the most time intensive part of the job and by extension the bottleneck in getting more jobs a month and thus more money.

  10. @nerthos @flaxx Its not as "fun" as game development, but there is GOOD money and more importantly a lot of jobs (here at least) right now in architectural modelling.

  11. @flaxx Bonus points if you fund it through kickstarter or patreon.

  12. @flaxx Jokes aside you can always work on modelling for any other bussiness until you get the job you want, as in a curriculum experience is experience regardless of where you do the job.

  13. @flaxx Just remember the golden rule about early access: disappear and erase your traces once you've made enough money and never finish.

  14. @flaxx Well, everything is a door if you work on it. Practice, make a portfolio, and when you see some studio hiring just send them a link to your work. It's not uncommon to see small-to-medium size studios posting ads for hiring on social media, if you stick to the circles where that's relevant.

  18. @flaxx Doing fine. Got up just an hour ago and heating water for a mate cocido (it's like tea). Haven't heard anyone mention Maya in years, but I do remember it from early 2000s magazines talking about 3D rendering
