  5. @leonkfox Not necessarily, It could have been some kind of accident, but the intent certainly wasn't a good natured prank.

  6. @leonkfox Unbirthing has a whole other, entirely more disturbing context on the internet. I'll leave you to figure that out.

  12. @leonkfox Yeah. They did a "Global" launch for the Kindle 3 that seemed to consist of "Let everyone order it at the same time but ship it to american customers first" I ordered mine the day after preorders opened and had to wait 2 months after release to get mine, but people in the US who placed orders way after me got theirs first. It got to the point where people were cancelling orders placed through amazon UK and re-ordering through .com and getting their devices faster.

  15. @leonkfox Yeah. SO are the touch and touch 3G versions for now. I'm guessing they're trying to separate out the launches so as to prevent a shipping debacle like the last kindle launch.

  22. @leonkfox I used to have a 7 inch Android device. It's a nice form factor. With the Playbooks hardware and Amazon's engineering behind it, it's going to be an iPad caliber device at less than half the price of the iPad

  23. @leonkfox (The Flyer runs a skinned version of 2.3 with no plans to upgrade) My point is Motorola, Samsung and HTC have a different end goal to Amazon in the market. They want to sell you a tablet. Then another tablet. Amazon sees the Fire as a storefront through which they can sell you other crap. Amazon has a vested interest in keeping every Fire running as long as possible so they can sell you more crap with it.

Wednesday, 28-Sep-11 17:48:39 UTC from web in context
  24. @leonkfox Yeah. I mean applications and having a manufacturer who actually cares about the device beyond just dumping it into stores. In 6 months time, Amazon won't be trying to sell you some other newer tablet. They'll be updating this one in the hope that you'll use it to buy more stuff from them, which is the same direction Apple approaches updates from, and notably, HTC, Motorola et al, are not,

  26. @leonkfox Because unlike the rest of the crap tablets flooding the market, the Kindle Fire is A) Well built B) Well priced and C) Well supported. The iPad is only two of those, so the consensus is that the Fire has a real chance in the market.
