    I remember around a year-ish ago my brother came home from a convention and one of the things he bought was a Haruhi Suzumiya plushie, and when my dad saw it he said "Oh, is that for your girlfriend?" to which my brother responded "No, it's for me. It's a character from a show I like" and that was pretty much the end of it. Within a day my dad had totally forgotten about it. There was never a need for "coming out".
