@sim Well, it's reasonable that you have the right to make it public domain if you want. I'd prefer keep that degree of control though, even if not usually enforced, to say what's canon and what isn't. It wouldn't stop others from writing stuff based on it but it would stop someone from screwing up the continuity by writing terrible fanfiction.
