@mylilbrony I started working sound and light boards in 7th grade when my chorus teacher suggested I do some stuff on crew for the musical and I mentioned I liked tech, I taught myself all the basic from just messing with the boards while they were rehearsing ( I got yelled at a few times :p), after that the same chorus teacher was directing a summer musical they were doing and I asked if I could help out, I ended up building sets and spending 5+ hours there a day, outside, in the summer, using power tools, 6 days a week, without any pay, all of my own free will, they were so impressed by my work ethic and because I knew a little lighting and sound they hired me
