  1. @xj9 # is for people that don't know how to use git and/or have never learned proper email etiquette.

it's a blight on the software ecosystem, it's time to lance that cyst.

  3. @maloki Sorry, don't take my long post as some kind of rant against you (that's how I interpret the "dude").

I just explain my perspective of it after a couple of years in this environment ;) And I can't do it on the # issues because, y'know, I don't like being a customer with proprietary services etc.

  4. @HerraBRE though I see now that you complained about # not respecting the Accept: header... Yeah, that's obviously a bad bug and should be reported as such.

Unfortunately I can't create or discuss Mastodon issues as I'm not a customer with #

  5. @maiyannah I've been looking at a *lot* of dead repos on # recently. Too much software foam fragments efforts and confuses users

  6. @Gargron PS. I can't join the discussions on # because I'm not a customer there. I hope you're getting my input through here.

  7. @rysiek @lambadalambda My hope is that # gets implemented in # Then any FOAF crawler can generate a good overview of the social graph.

(I can't add issues or requests since I'm not a customer with #, so cc: @gargron)

  20. !selfhosting !decentralife With #, you just have a single account and you can contribute to a lot of projects.

With something like #, you need a separate account for every gogs instance whose projects you want to work on. That could be very many accounts, and a lot of fragmented identities. Is there any # hosting system, or bug tracking system, that can # between instances?

A simple mailing list seems to be the only alternative. But, a mailing list is not really a # Besides, # has its own problems.

  24. @tuttle Last weekend I was ready to stay home instead of going to a "fix/remake" workshop (me representing !umehack) because they hadn't setup _any_ communication outside of walled gardens (apart from collecting emails).

I had told them they should get just an ordinary website. It didn't happen until I explained that only supporting walled gardens directly oppose a hacker ideology, diminishing my motivation to help. Also their mails had "Sent from my iPhone" advertisement, despite Apple's infamous environmental disservices (not ideal for the workshop!). I had to ask them several times to remove it before they did so.

I think it's important to show those who want help from the !foss community that what we do is in fact important and that centralisation of the internet is bad for _all of us_.

Our common struggle is in fact so important that we _should
_ say no to "bad deals". If we don't say no to #, #, # etc. it's effectively the same as saying _yes_ to them.
