  2. I’ve finished the main quest in Torchlight II, and I can say that the game surprised me.

    The feel changes from level to level, some lands feel more elaborated than the others, some are fun and some are boring, like if they were done by different people or in a good or… not in such a good mood.

    But what has surprised me was the difficulty. It rises. I chose to start the game on ‘Normal’, and till around 35 level I had to have unassigned 50+ stat points to feel struggle, and only put a little to be able to use a new stick. But then something changed, as if somebody has facepalmed and said: ‘No, we can’t make the game as easy as this.’ And when I started dying more often than usual, I put my stat points to use. At the end of the main quest I did die A LOT.

    The graphics is pretty, independently of the matters related to map design. Though it’s 2.5D, there are times when you see your hero behind tree branches in a web, which makes it feel far away, or when you see on the floor a spot of light with a shadow of tracery, and how clouds dim the spot while they move. You cannot see that window, but it enables imagination to see it on sloped roof and clouds flowing over it.

    The lighting is among the things, that make the game look pretty. The environment looks alive, ‘clouds’ change the lighting, rain drops on puddles, wind touches tree branches, cages with skeletons screech in tact as they move, some skeletons are eagerly reaching to you with their hands. Not to mention frogs, bugs, sometimes snakes and other glowing things that are always around.

    There is also many *weird* things – in a good sense of this word! They will be in my next post.

    Now about the bad things: if you close up the view to your hero, they’re ugly Pop-eye-handed guys. Faces are ugly too. Even some NPCs look better. And the mod for better character modification doesn’t do much, only adding a few more ugly faces and hairstyles.

    The glitches are very rare, I’ve played for fifty-seven hours and over all this time only my pet once stuck in some curve of the cave in a dungeon, and I had to go back in order to show it the way. So nothing should stop the fun, if you’ll give it a try.

    Protip: if you ever feel lonely, teach your pet to spawn a skeleton. He won’t do much, but now there will be three of you! When he’s not around I now feel lonely.

  5. @dolus I’ve played a bit # and it’s 8/10 so far. Models are ugly, quests are stupid, but the environment is what immerses you into the game. I’ve already caught two goldfishes!

    No screenshots, because all of them happened to be just black rectangles.

  14. Man. This boss spammed s***tons of trash mobs, to the point where I couldn't hit him until I got tired and started swallowing mana potions like water while on ecstasy, and spamming an AoE/stun attack. And he only dropped some gold, two crappy items, and a permanent +25 health item (the only somewhat useful thing). Worst thing, both the mobs and the boss did so little damage, I could stand still with a mage class and let them hit me. I hate you, level 10 boss. #
