@luke As an old-time #Debian user, at least, I was happily handing out #Ubuntu CDs, given that #Shuttleworth was insisting "Ubuntu _is_ Debian", and #jdub was on board.

#Ubuntu #Linux For some reason #discard doesn't seem to be working for my #SSD with #ext4. Funnily it works great with #vfat on same drive. Should I see discard on #mount option row when checking what mount says? I would assume it should read there.
What's the best way to verify that discard is actually active? I did see tons of guides with mostly only bad hints and incorrect ways of checking it. -
@antisocial I'm using Ubuntu 16.04 without proprietary drivers. But I do plan to replace #Ubuntu by #Trisquel, as this one is more libre.

OK, one thing I'm sure of by now: my internet connection craps out when the connection is *idle*. Always from Tine, both i Groningen and Amsterdam 9that 3 different routers), and both for line connection and wifi - the behavior is always the same. I've now been streaming an internet radio station for over 2 days and it's been solid... That's a decent workaround but of course no solution - and besides, it takes up bandwidth which is noticeable when loading heavy web pages. :( I'm ducking but so far have not found any description even of this, let alone a fix. Maybe I should ditch NetworkManager and try wicd? #networking #troubleshooting #timeout !linux #ubuntu

User Experience. It took quite a while for me to figure out why WiFi / WLAN wasn't working. Reason? Access Point (AP) was configure to use n standard. But the old device only supported g standard. Guess what, Xubuntu, doesn't indicate any kind of reason for this fail. Just just tries to connect for a long time, and then fails. Yet another example of engineering, how to totally fail and even fail to give any kind of feedback or reasonable error message. After wondering for a while, I enabled gn mixed mode, and tada, everything started to work. Yet, the network list nicely shows the n network and prompts for password, even if the device naturally can't join the network- Thank you once again for great engineering guys. - Phew. #Ubuntu #Linux #WLAN #WiFi #fail
