Well I thought the Super Mario Galaxy movie was fun but alas, it will now forever be remembered as the movie I saw right before I got pulled over for the first time

I'm playing Kiwami 3 in English since I already experienced this story in Japanese. This becomes hilarious exactly ten minutes in if you choose to watch the recaps of Yakuza and Yakuza 2, because those games didn't get dubs and for some reason RGG chose not to dub the flashbacks even though, at least in Yakuza 1's case, everybody featured has an english VA from 0 or Infinite Wealth, so English Kiryu is narrating over Japanese Kiryu's dialogue, for some reason
about 4 months ago from web-
@zeldatra OMG. It feels like RGG was phoning in this release, doing the bare minimum or less. I'm waiting for the inevitable sale in half a year.
-
@adiwan a significant chunk of it seems to have been outsourced to other SEGA studios. Methinks this one was more of a corporate mandate since with Stranger Than Heaven presumably launching next year there’d be no Yakuza until 2028 at the earliest. Still I’m having fun.

i have been told by a Venezuelan person to shut the cherry up about Venezuela and I suppose i have no recourse because what am I gonna do, call him a cherry?
about 5 months ago from web-
@zeldatra Plenty of Venezuelan refugee students at my workplace, all were insanely happy about the intervention, so were their parents. Refugee associations called for a celebration in the capital at 18 and at 14 it was already full, they were still there past midnight. Ex student I kept in contact with (in college now) I messaged right when the extraction was announced (it was early morning here) and she had to take a break to cry. I have yet to see one who isn't happy about it.
Machado is an F tier candidate for actually being in charge of the country and will absolutely sell all resources, however in the words of a Venezuelan refugee that was asked about the oil on the sidewalk here, "we don't have food why would we care about oil?"
I think Zion Don's current administration isn't great but this is probably the first genuinely good military act the USA has carried out since ordering the navy to clear out the pirates in the seas of Tripoli. -
@nerthos in the grander scheme of things after doing some research I’ve come around on this particular event but I have an admittedly self-interested dislike of any US military intervention anywhere for any reason regardless of the outcome
-
@zeldatra Everyone except the zionists dislike any US intervention, but if they're going to do it regardless, it might as well be an useful one with at least one or two good facets to it.

Today in “real apple I saw today” at work: black dude flashing white power signs and confronting brown dudes saying they look like the DC shooter. There’s something in the water in this FrankerZin town man I swear to god, everybody has a screw loose

@zeldatra Cool. I bet you're not allowed to carry a baseball bat with barbed wire wrapped around it.
-
@adiwan unfortunately not but we do sell foam bats in my store so I might just carry one of those around all night.
-
@zeldatra Then I might suggest using (gray) pipe cleaner as a barbed wire replacement.

What is even the point man. Like yeah FrankerZ it take all my Potato Knishes I guess, not like anyone’s gonna stop youabout 7 months ago from web-
@zeldatra Man if you need the shampoo that damn badly just have it

@scribus alas, if any of the body products he was stealing were for himself, maybe he’d smell a little better. He actually takes it to the nearby convenience store to resell it (police are also not doing anything about this)

@zeldatra bogus

At my work they want to push Copilot and ChatGPT on us. All people who are participating need to fill out a questionnaire and answer what's been done with AI and if it were effective or not. I'm hesitant to participate and rate negatively everything.
about 7 months ago from web-
@scribus I have seen articles about that today. I spoke today with a colleague (is a graphic (3D) designer and UX designer) who vibe-codes prototypes. During our talk he showed what he made and was altering things during our call. It was wild how Cursor messes things up and needs constant supervision. I mean it's impressive that someone with no coding experience achieved that but crutches can only go so far until they create other pain points.
-
@adiwan I literally today sat down at my work computer to find an article from corporate about using generative AI to increase productivity. I work in a grocery store, man.

Does everyone end up wondering if they're autistic at some point now? Am I the last one to the party again?
about 7 months ago from web-
@scribus not that it matters at this point but I was thinking about it recently because if I am it would explain… a lot. Thought about getting a diagnosis because at this point I would just like to know.

@scribus LLMs have incredible potential as a learning tool and logistical aid but the world seems content on using them to cheat on essays, skip therapy, and roleplay a meet & cherry scenario with Sticks the Badger.

Silent Hill f earns the distinction of having the most uncomfortable sequence of scenes I think I have ever witnessed in a video game. I was genuinely dreading continuing on to the next room between each and every one of them. Well done.
about 8 months ago from web-
@zeldatra Is that their 15th Silent Hill? Did they have an A thru E, too??
-
@scribus With f being the sixth letter of the alphabet, I’m pretty sure that among a few meanings, it’s intended to be read as Silent Hill 6. Origins is called “Zero” in Japan, and Homecoming never got a Japanese release and is straight up omitted from Konami’s website, leaving this game as the sixth SH game not including remakes, spinoffs, and reimagining.

RGG actually did it.... The game fans are screaming about because they were screaming about it for other reasons. Kiwami 3.

Turn-based combat is king. All those attempts to do a hybrid approach are failing in my opinion. I think Diablo has poisoned these games with the fancy real time hack and slash combat. I like D&D for intense strategy combat and not for the real-time hectic confusion. I have a party of 4 people against 5-10 enemies. I am too slow to even judge the situation and make a good decision.
about 10 months ago from web-
@zeldatra Yeah. The companion AI might also do a lot of heavy lifting there too. Imagine how bad it would look like if the other characters were potatoes and did the worst decisions. In BG3 I was peeved off any time (out of combat obviously) whenever a character stepped into a trap or dangerous zone. I had to reload and redo a fight because a NPC character completely out of my control stepped into an AOE effect (Moonbeam spell) that was active when every enemy died. Then due to that dumbness the NPC went hostile against me because he was that dumb.
-
@zeldatra Hearing about the new battle system actually piqued my interest in playing the remake, I'd previously been put off by hearing about the plot changes
-
@scribus the story is banal dogapple but the game itself is very very fun.

I don't like what I was seeing the the Naked Gun trailer.
about a year ago from web-
@adiwan I laughed exactly once at the OJ joke in the first trailer but I have been unimpressed otherwise.
-
@zeldatra I got a slight chuckle at max out of this. I feel like the stuff in the trailer was off-putting serious in tone while being off-putting outlandish in the next. I don't remember the originals being like that. Also I don't like that he is so trigger happy for a comedy film. I guess, according to the Youtube comments, it will be a moderate success, as I have seen a ton of positive comments. Cinema is dead, I guess.

What if school classes were RPG classes in a game? Having a party of students that is composed of a physics student, a foreign language student, a history student and a religion student could be for example a fantasy equivalent of a wizard, a bard, a rogue, and a cleric.

@adiwan I had actually just been mentally workshopping something like that, where your character sheet is a report card and instead of numbers it was letter graded, "Oh I've got this puzzle, with my A+ in Ancient Sumerian Math!"

@scribus Hmmm.... Weirdly compelling. So you have to find books, teachers, information and then to write an exam to level up a skill?

Delving into smaller youtube channels. The sponsor segments are definitely weirder than the ones of the bigger and more established channels. It surely shows the desperation the creators have. A furniture modification/restoration channel that is sponsored by a LED beauty face mask? Questionable meets desperation.
about a year ago from web-
@adiwan As someone who shaves maybe a fraction of their face, maybe once a week, I just laugh at the wasted sponsor money every time I see one
-
@scribus Me too. I shave once a month and wait until it gets itchy. I only have a simple safety razor and an electric shaver. It is sufficient but I like neither of those because my skin is easily irritable. I'd like to permanently remove my beard with lasers but I fear it'll destroy my skin.
-
@adiwan I go the easy route and trim with scissors, then correct with the razor. Should probably buy an electric shaver but eh

My dad was showing me something of an old guy from Maryland, where Dad's from. Dude had a wicked thick accent, but I could mostly follow him while he was talking with the interviewer. But once another local came up and they started talking, man, I swear it went from "dialect" to "whole new language" as far as I could hear
about a year ago from web-
@scribus western Maryland and the Baltimore-DC area may well be in two different parts of the country if I’m being honest.
-
@zeldatra My dad has the absolute thinnest accent of his side of the family, and even he was able to be pinned down to what part of the Chesapeake Bay he grew up on by a dude he met in Long Beach for about ten minutes

Working for a project in northern Germany. Every morning it begins with everyone greeting with "moin". It is not a abbreviation for "morning" but it is an old lower German word for "good" and "pleasant".
about a year ago from web-
@scribus Just to be clear: Lower German is not that common, however in casual conversation it has some foothold in everyday use, especially common expressions and traditional stuff like in food or handiwork or hunting. In comparison the Bavarian dialect is 20 times more common. It is not dead but there is definitely a dying trend. A local broadcaster has a one hour news block that uses lower German throughout.
-
@zeldatra I guess it's an English language native thing?
-
@adiwan That actually is pretty interesting, language stuff is always a trip to me.

Well I'm trying to do a House-aligned playthrough of Fallout: New Vegas, but I very really truly hate him and the terrible asshole things he says :-/
about a year ago from web-
@scribus Interesting, he's my favourite faction to side with on the grounds of pragmatism, he's the only one with a plan (and the actual capability to make it happen) to make humanity go anywhere other than "we'll just be hobos in perpetuity"
He might not be incredibly likable, but in a survival scenario that's irrelevant. -
@nerthos Yeah, I want to not hate him - I mean, a retro-future spaceVegas? Hell, yeah!! He's not even that unlikable, there's a wry sort of amusement to his bearing. But he's too egocentric; he's not preserving humanity, he's feeding his ego and seeking to create a thrallhood underclass to prop HIM up. Ultimately, I don't consider him sufficiently distinct from Caesar. Both cling to old-world ideals and play up some fantasy of the "inevitability" of "their" power. So, I kill him, take his city, and in my mind carry on with developing the space plans in a little more cooperative, ground-up fashion. (Though in all honesty a spacefaring future would be just as hellish as the vaults so iunno w/e i guess lol) Also I make The King governor or something :p
-
@scribus That all sounds good until you factor in the kind of human resource you're dealing with in Fallout. Ironically the tv show is the best illustration of this, with the main character trying to behave like a civilized person and consistently getting banana'd by everyone.
House's narcissistic approach is a necessity in the world he's operating, without the army of robots forcing the wastelanders to work at gunpoint nothing will get done (example: they're still living in shacks near 200 years after the war)
Plus, he has civilized some factions already, so it's not like he won't uplift the competent and decent wastelanders into better positions. He has to do that for any space settling plan to work, since good people are needed to populate those colonies.
Sometimes, a competent megalomaniac is the only option that can get the job done.

I addictively played the game for 8 hours straight with minor pauses to grab a snack and go to the toilet. It is just past midnight here and I am almost mad because I'm too tired to continue and have to work tomorrow.

@adiwan i was confused on why people were saying it was out already today until i realized that the release date was Japan time, even the one given by RGG's western accounts. Neat!
-
@zeldatra Yeah. I had to look up a few times. Thankfully Steam displayed the remaining hours until release. I had prealoaded it yesterday, however minutes after the official release it wasn't able to start because my Steam client wasn't aware of the release. A restart of the client fixed it.
