  7. It kind of feels wrong to be doing a show set in Virginia that touches heavily on internet culture and not having a single Chris Chan reference (she’s from Henrico County) so I dropped a Sonichu license plate on one of the CGI vehicles. That’s about as far as I’m willing to go though considering recent circumstances

  11. on one hand using AI to replicate actors’ and musicians’ voices is like really weird and shady and isn’t going to end well, but on the other hand, as an internet creator, it seems like a golden opportunity to parody movies that get popular artists to perform marginally related songs for the soundtracks by performing some stupid, tongue-in-cheek blockbuster-style song about Undertale and then using AI to replace my voice with Eminem or something like that.

    • @zeldatra You don't have to go that far. A friend of mine uses Text To Speech (AI assisted or not) for his game jam games. It is often a blessing not to hear the programmer doing the voices. I played too many game jam games where a non-native and heavily accented English speaker tries to speak into a crappy gaming-microphone in the most monotone and least engaging way. I genuinely think that the TTS from google at http://translate.google.com delivers better an emotion than these crappy attempts.

    • @zeldatra Just about the exact inverse of what I'm trying to do. Want them to believe a near-future cyberpunk urban center, with human/animal hybrids, which eventually develops real-deal Magic and ends up making contact with >3rd dimensional intelligence? Start with something standard, like a murder procedural, so they're not entirely flippin' lost lol

    • @scribus the way I see it - since *my* universe is usually grounded pretty firmly in reality, starting with some really crazy grape off the bat means nothing’s off the table. Futurama’s first season goes from 1999 New York to literally the edge of the universe, so for the entire rest of the show they could go literally anywhere in between.

  19. I'm at a point that if the destination is within 4km I rather use the bike. Well... Only if it's not pouring rain. I bought a rain poncho and have it always in my backpack but it's already uncomfortable enough when the moisture accumulates under my jacket. I don't need more from the outside.

    • @scribus Oh yeah. The USA is not very bike friendly from all the videos I've seen. I'd be terrified to cycle there and would do only that on the sidewalks if at all. To protect my bike from the elements and thieves I always put it back into the cellar. It takes a few minutes to put it in and out but at least it'll last a bit longer. A neighbor has a steel frame bike and it has developed an even rust coating.

    • @zeldatra ugh I hate that, because yeah it's usually on "sale" to buy 3 and get one "free," and sure it's convenient to not have to worry about which ones are the old ones, but damnit four expensive things all at one time?? :(

Friday, 28-Jan-22 01:23:26 UTC in context
    • @scribus could tell the guy was getting paid extra to push a particular brand too… he showed me the most expensive one first and was like “this one’s good for snow”, then showed me a seemingly identical one from another brand and was like “this one’s ok too, I guess… it’s made for all weather conditions… but it’s really not as good, I wouldn’t even bother”

  25. Hey, if you have HBO Max or access to a cable subscription: I have some friends who worked on Smiling Friends, [adult swim]’s new animated horror comedy. The sixth episode features a Bakshi-inspired character who was animated by some friends of mine, but the whole show in general is very funny. The show hits HBO Max on Feb 9th, and if you have cable, you can watch the entire series on adultswin.com right now. If you could give it a watch, that’d be real cool, because we really wanna see a second season get greenlit and online viewership is pretty much how they decide what gets renewed these days.
