Well I've already pitched a papaya on every other chat forum I have, but why tf does YT's top result for a Rubik's Cube have NO USEFUL INFORMATION in it?? https://youtu.be/7Ron6MN45LY

@scribus Whenever I look up for something to know how it works I almost exclusively find videos that only scratch the surface of the thing and mostly those videos end up with "Now you know how it works". Tutorials are also a bane in my existence where the tutorial is more about everything else but the topic it tutorials about (including 1/3 of the video dedicating to personal banana of the video creator and a good portion to social media call to action blah blah).

I'm debating with myself if I should buy and play TUNIC https://store.steampowered.com/app/553420/TUNIC/ . And if I do, should I buy it from GOG or Steam?

Bob's Burgers was a good movie (:

@scribus Kinda funny it was PG13 when it had no blood, Hitler, or fairy sex workers... but Bakshi's "Wizards" was only a PG.
-
@scribus Pre-Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom? You’re taking your kids to that borderline R-rated cartoon.
-
@zeldatra Hell even post-Indy, my parents taped it off our yuppie cousins' cable and showed it to middle-school me, haha

This morning I startled the woman at the baker's shop. It was a few minutes after opening and nobody was lining up. The woman was preparing the coffee machine and I walked to the counter. I wasn't particularly sneaky. I mean I wasn't quiet on purpose. When I said "hello" she jumped up as if I wanted to rob this place. Not that extreme but it was a big reaction.

@adiwan I'm just gonna pretend that this is why my joints all pop, not because I've been falling apart for 3 decades, but out of courtesy for people I may accidentally sneak up on otherwise

@scribus Occasionally my knees pop loudly as well. Not today, but there were days when walking up the stairs made of stone sound like they are wooden.

Hearing Kingdom Hearts IV’s theme song will be an Eminem feature to try and appeal to people who liked that period in the early 2010s where every pop album had Eminem on it

@zeldatra Haven't wasted a thought on that damn pony generator trash in a long time. It creates a shudder along my spine when I remember the flood of OCs coming through the DeviantArt groups I followed.

My D&D group adopted a Xorn, a gem-eating monster, and named it Ruby. We bought some Xorns to smuggle them to a mine in order to sell them there but we kept one, as my character was good enough in animal handling that it got tamed.

Chip & Dale: Rescue Rangers looks like the Xbox 360 video game adaptation of Chip & Dale: Rescue Rangers. BUT… it’s still a lot of fun. I enjoyed it, a lot more than I thought I would. If you have Disney+ and a couple of hours to kill, you could do a lot worse.
Saturday, 21-May-22 07:13:07 UTC from web-
@zeldatra I watched it on Friday. It was.... an experience. The plot was fine but what it made special was what the legal team was able to get and what the creators were able to get away with. The cel-shaded 3D characters and the occasional painted-over humans were grating.

I genuinely believe we need a constitutional amendment securing the innate human right to kick the everloving goddamnit out of people who make -- or kowtow to implement -- moronic ass-backwards software design choices. Why in any god's holiest of names would the Keyboard Settings be ANYWHERE OTHER THAN SETTINGS > KEYBOARD??? The HELL I gotta go under papayaing "Time" for this you god damned useless batcaves!!? Who decided this, and have I missed out on the opportunity to skin the dumbass alive and roll them in rock salt?

@scribus Similarly - why are “Device Manager” and “Printers and Devices” two separate menus?
-
@zeldatra Why does YouTube have two (or more, I've just found 2) ways to link the tv app and the mobile app, one numeric and the other alphabetic. No idea why there's not just one way, they couldn't pick one?

@scribus Out of nowhere I remembered the ""Injun"" song from Peter Pan for the first time in twenty years and on a rewatch, oh man. Oh man

@thelastgherkin Well you inspired me to go back and take a look at it. I always wondered why people weren't more offended, but I still forgot half of how bad it is.

Avatar is the least-exciting hyped movie I can remember. Everybody praises the 3D viewing experience but I think the use of 3D is only so good because all other 3D movies did it wrong in a way or another. Story-wise it's a dud in my opinion. The plot is as transparent as the main protagonist is flat and uninteresting.

Really think Adam Sandler shoulda been the next Doctor. Doctor Jew.
Sunday, 08-May-22 16:30:04 UTC from web-
@zeldatra I heard the BBC passed because the songs he tried out just didn't fit with their vision of the Doctor. I guess acoustic-guitar-backed manchild moans about "timey-wimey" just appeal to a very select audience.

@scribus was really looking forward to hearing the doctor talk like an actor whose entire understanding of mental disability comes from very special episodes of the 1980s

@zeldatra Were you looking for some kind of lost Sims 2 thing? https://simworld.neocities.org/frontpage.html

@scribus this is an interesting read! Sims 2 fortunately though has a large modding community at modthesims.info (as well as elsewhere for people looking for more, ah, substantive content) so the lost media don’t bug me as much

Most of them want me to activate a gift card for them to “test” the system or some other such nonsense, I’ll usually go through the steps they give me, asking lots of stupid questions along the way, and then when I’ve “activated” the card I just tell them the card number is “zero”. Most just hang up at that point. One guy audibly huffed and hung up. Another guy got so mad he cursed me out and asked why I didn’t just hang up the phone. Scam calls to me turn into prank calls very quickly.
Friday, 01-Apr-22 17:55:53 UTC from web-
@zeldatra that's pretty impressive
-
-
Got today my first scammer on my company phone. They spoofed a local phone number (probably a SIP gate) and called probably from India, as the caller had an Indian accent and spoke English. They said they were from Microsoft and my computer had a "problem". I didn't hesitate very long and hung up. It'd be funny to waste their time but it's also my time too that would have been wasted.
Friday, 01-Apr-22 12:14:25 UTC from web-
@adiwan I've tried messing with a few scammers/spammers in the past, but I seem to be no good at it. They never reply to my responses, I must be too obvious.
-
@scribus I’ve been known to subtly waste a phone scammer’s time at my place of work, to the point that some of them, if I pick up and they recognize my voice, they’ll immediately hang up.

Now, I, fully vaccinated AND having caught the virus, personally am proceeding through life as I did prior to the pandemic, with the exception that I wear a mask to work and in crowded places still, but the idea that there should be zero precautions taken whatsoever and people just shouldn’t care about it anymore is frankly incredibly shortsighted.
Thursday, 31-Mar-22 17:02:34 UTC from web-
@scribus The blatantly-rude and incorrect comment "we can skip the “muh freedom” dog and pony show, we all know you don’t actually care about that" is incorrect for many reasons, but one in particular that can be proven here: This site runs on GNUSocial (previously known as statusnet), and I learned about this website through exploring GNU software that I do not usually use. I ise Free software and reccomend it to my peers because I very much do caer about freedoms and liberties, unlike the aforementioned. All of the aspects of my "rat" are perfectly comprehensible, but I would understand that you would be confused as the StatusNet link now directs to an unrelated website.
-
@vernandex Right, but how does you using FOSS make HIM a troll?
-
@vernandex sorry, we're talking about rats now???
-
-
Saying Covid is over is not the same as Covid being actually over. Ignoring facts doesn't help. It makes things worse. I'm disgusted.
Thursday, 31-Mar-22 07:26:25 UTC from web-
@vernandex I am fed up by people doing the thing that perpetuates the current situation. Instead of getting it under control it is getting worse. I want it to be over but doing the opposite is madness.
-
@adiwan You know it's never going to "be" over, right? You can't exactly get rid of a respiratory disease that almost everyone has had alread, and the mindless proponents of the things that are supposed to stop the disease don't realize know what the law of diminishing returns are. People are over it, no one cares anymore; they'd rather get sick for a while instead of wearing masks and get forced medications than pretend like it'll one day go away entirely. The most you can do is stop holding things up by wearing masks all the time for no good reason and, maybe, getting sick once in a while, like normal.
-
@vernandex I always wonder why the party who asks "Why do you care?" cares, y'know? This door swings both ways, as the Hermits say.

i made this car in 2016, when I was 19. This is the first time the badging - a very mature nazi joke, poking fun at Mercedes-Benz' origins as a manufacturer - appears on screen. Going back and forth on whether or not I want to retexture it to remove that. http://rainbowdash.net/url/876094

@adiwan It’s to be expected, honestly. The US outlawed slavery long before most modern American companies got their start, and the ones that do go back that long are from New England which was less reliant on slave labor than other places, I’m sure if like Coca Cola existed in 1830 I’d be able to point at them and go “hey this company owned slaves”

@zeldatra Considering the way scrip was manipulated, one could make an argument about company towns
