@vt3c I'm not a multi billion dollar company

@vt3c Well they /might not/ be able to get netflix anymore. All the major ISP's would have to do is price their bandwidth so high that netflix can't afford to pay.
-
@ceruleanspark there's no need to lie. Publicize your financial reports we all know you're the 1%
-
@mylittlesistercantbethisincestual You know how tempting it is to use a whiteboard marker to write a large zero on a sheet of paper and send it to you right now?
-
@ceruleanspark No offense or anything, but RDN is probably pretty low on your ISP's priority list. (Also, isn't RDN based in Europe? That isn't affected by American laws, right?)
-
@mrmattimation Of course, I could be wrong about RDN being low on the priority list. The users that come on regularly are to say nothing of the users who probably come on, create an account, and never post anything, or even users who just check the site out and leave.
-
@mrmattimation It's not going to operate as a list, because that'd be horrendously impractical for them to implement. The idea is to carve the internet into tiers, with the companies that negotiate best treatment being put on the top tier, the ones with less money below them, and "everything else" in the bottom "best-effort" tier. Their equipment can do that today even. As for sites outside america not being covered by american law, how well do you think RDN would do without any american posters? There'd be like, 2 of us left.
-
@ceruleanspark Ah, I didn't take into account that American ISPs will probably start overcharging for basic service. My bad.
-
@mrmattimation It would work the opposite way around. Instead of "picking sites and making them slow" they'd just make /everything/ slow unless you could pay for better service.
-
@mrmattimation It's not the customer that will pay the fee. It's site owners. It is implied that we will be expected to pay them to deliver our pages to you. (As well as you having to pay to receive them)
-
@ceruleanspark Well, I'm in no danger there, since I already pay for top tier Internet, but I understand that others could be greatly affected by it. Well, maybe a repeal is on its way? The Obama administration has already voiced its thoughts on the law and the White House claims to be doing its best to keep the Internet available to everybody. I dunno. There are a lot of pessimists out there, and I'm one of them, but I trust my government.
