        1. @vcgriffin Yeah, it's a pretty intense novel! I haven't liked everything I've read by Stephen King but Misery is definitely my favourite by him.

          1. @northernnarwhal He gets pretty predictable when you read too much of him.

              1. @ceruleanspark of being a massive racist?

                1. @vcgriffin Lovecraft was a terrible racist, and that was reflective in his writing, but I still really like Lovecraft if only because his actual storytelling craft and prose were excellent. I think it's possible to enjoy certain aspects of the arts you enjoy while also acknowledging problematic aspects that they may carry.

                  1. @northernnarwhal to be fair to him, I haven't read any Lovecraft yet. I have has so much cthulhu rammed down my throat I don't think I will for ages, and besides there the wrong type of tentacle

                    1. @vcgriffin At the Mountains of Madness and The Shadow Over Innsmouth are both really good places to start if you're interested in getting into his work.

                      1. @northernnarwhal "The Colour out of Space" and "The Dunwich Horror" are probably the ones that impacted me the most.

                        1. @scribus I love The Colour Out of Space, though I haven't actually read The Dunwich Horror. I'll have to look into it!

            2. @vcgriffin It tends to happen when you write a lot in the genre that he writes in. I've just found that lots of his books (especially his newer ones) don't do as compelling a job of conveying pacing and atmosphere to me as his standout titles.
