So hey, Kaa from Jungle Book's two major sequences were animated by two different guys, and consequently it almost looks like he has two different animation models.

@thelastgherkin Is this the current one or the 1960s one?

@mrmattimation Vintage type. Night-time Kaa at the beginning (right) has wider-set eyes and smaller nostrils than the one who sings "Trust in Me" during the day. http://pny.lv/0irgo

@thelastgherkin Oh, yeah, whaddya know.
This might sound weird, but as an animator I actually think it's a little bit charming. It adds more... authenticity to it, I guess? It's like the animator left a signature on their work. Same deal with back in the early 90s Klasky-Csupo Simpsons episodes when you would see Bart Simpson go off-model all the time. Nowadays, since everything's done either a) in-house, but digitally, or b) traditionally, but in Korean sweatshops, you don't really feel like a person animated it. You feel like a company animated it.Sunday, 05-Jun-16 17:52:56 UTC from web-
@mrmattimation Old type Tom & Jerry was really good for having little tells for each of their animators.

@mrmattimation I was just reflecting the other day on how modern Simpsons episodes are too clean and lacking the handmade charm of yesteryear. Can I say "yesteryear" yet? Am I old enough?

@scribus The primary definition of "yesteryear" is "last year", so if you're older than one then yes.

@scribus It's, like, not even just The Simpsons, too. Basically every cartoon that's more than ten years old has been "sterilized", so to speak. http://rainbowdash.net/url/846413
