  1. Well I just learned that I have a scar (somewhere on one of my knuckles) from the location of the first-ever episode of Bar Rescue. Which was closed after a stabbing murder. And then burned down. And is still a pile of fenced-off rubble 3 years later.

  2. Watched "Kill la Kill" and it was awful. Despite positive reviews my experience was not good. It contains huge and obvious plot holes. I can stretch my suspension of disbelief so far. It had some good characters in there but the plot weighted all down like an elephant on a cardboard box.

    • @adiwan Yeah, that one's much more about antics and story than plot. And fanservice. Like, to such a core extent one wonders if it's even "service" anymore, lol.

Wednesday, 17-Feb-21 21:46:22 UTC in context
    • @scribus The fanservice was the least of my problems with it. The plot is so convoluted it hurts my intelligence. Sentient alien thread accelerates the evolution of humans so they can wear clothes, Then the thread is used to make super-powered magic clothes. Then the bad guys use the thread in normal clothing to enslave/transform humanity while the good guys have also thread on their bodies. Then the master plan is to engulf the earth with the magic thread so to make it pop and burst more thread into the universe. And then the whole school thing and trying to conquer other schools is also the dumbest thing in the series. Where is the military? Where are state officials? It's certainly concerning when there are huge military-grade fights all over the country without any consequences. My suspension of disbelief can handle only a limited amount of BS before it turns against the piece of fiction.

Borderlands 2 is fun right up until I either run up against the usual "What am I stuck on, why am I not running, why can't I even jump, if I'm not supposed to be here how did I even get in and why can't I get out again" antics of every FPS ever... That, or the keyboard-as-controller issues of "I wanted my knife, not to throw a grenade at my own feet..." !vgp

    • @scribus True story: I grew up pretty much entirely on PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360, so when I finally got a PC that could properly handle video games I was immediately put off by the keyboard controls and plugged in an Xbox One controller instead. To this day it's really hard for me to play shooters the "real" way.

    • @mrmattimation I had had an NES, GameBoy, SNES, Atari XE, and Sega Genesis before we got our first "real" family computer, a 486 running Windows 3.11. My parents declared that the computer was therefore not for games, unless they were educational. I believe I would go on to N64, 3DS, and Xbox 360 before trying WASD-anything.

  11. On the night from Thursday to Friday I had to call the police because a drunk person with an empty vodka bottle slept and snored on the staircase about next to my apartment. Probably one of my hate neighbours acquaintances. Then the next two days were extremely noisy and I had to call the police 3 times. In the span of the 3 days I was awake for 44 hours straight.

  14. Hey here's one, how are they gonna keep the animation cell fan industry going when everything is all digital?

Thursday, 28-Jan-21 03:59:36 UTC from web
    • @scribus Three answers: The first is that The Simpsons didn't switch to digital animation until the mid-2000s, so there's always about fifteen years of that to go through (and Disney not-withstanding (they've been doing digital since The Rescuers Down Under in 1990), the rest of the industry was also pretty late on that train), the second is that a 22-minute program averages around ten thousand unique drawings (more than that if it's a Simpsons, less than that if it's a Flintstones or Jetsons) so there's a LOT to go through, and the third is, and you didn't hear this from me, a lot of those animation cels you see on eBay are actually reproductions or pieces of promotional artwork which have been created expressly to be sold, so they quite literally will be able to send you Itchy's arm for decades.

    • @scribus Just happened to me. I poured steaming hot tea into my mug and didn't put a thought into waiting for it to cool down for a short while. But other to the actual case of that happening it's a great idea for using it as a metaphor for various things. Your interpretation fits it well. It can also applied to saying things that are potentially false or need more time to be sure they are not.

Thursday, 14-Jan-21 19:59:06 UTC in context
    • @scribus Pizza was also a problem for me. Thankfully I haven't burnt myself with pizza (and its cheese) for a long time. Those burns last for days. Whenever I make or buy pizza I am paying attention to the amount of fat and cheese it has, which are always the culprit. So in the case of making pizza myself I cover the pizza lightly with cheese that that there is not a thick layer that can keep the molten lava hot long after it's out of the oven. I like thin and crispy pizzas anyway. The more cheese and fat the soggier they are and the harder the slices are to handle and eat. I bake my pizzas such that the bread is stiff enough the pizza (slice) can hold up itself.

  24. Michael Bay’s new movie is about a bizarro alternate universe where the US government is mishandling a pandemic, but I did the math and I’m 95% certain the virus would have died out by killing all of its hosts too fast to find new ones under the conditions portrayed in the film.

  25. Watched this documentary on "deep time" and human history last night. It was all like, "Columbus set sail because 5 billion years ago a planetoid hit proto-Earth, causing the axial tilt which resulted in the weather patterns which led to spices growing in India. Meanwhile, the Portuguese got rich off of a dying star 7 billion years ago, which resulted in a silver deposit in modern-day Mexico..."
