@adiwan Well, that works. However the last time I was toying around with it I was hooking them up directly with SATA. Resulting in no spindown.
That might actually be the sollution I was looking for ( though not one that I wanted per-se ). Just offload the spindown timer to the IC that also translates SATA into USB 3.X.
Wait does the new RPi have USB 3.X. ? -
@adiwan I was not selling any silly idea's. But I might think about building a NAS myself. Though the only thing that is on my mind prior to just doing it would be if I can get hard drives to spin down when not in use while still online.
At least the last time I tried that, that part alone gave me lots of nightmares. -
@adiwan Oh nice, those finally came around. checks online. Well half the stores I usually go to are down, but I was expecting those things to be at least tripple the price.

Between 50 and 65 % of all networks suddenly vanished.
Either my ISP is acting up or IT-Thanos just snapped his fingers.Monday, 24-Jun-19 13:26:13 UTC from web -
Oh my... Well just think of Mars candy-bars with nuts. Thanks totally affectionate auto-censor bot-thing.

So who here unironically still watches the Simpsons ? I honestly gave up somewhere at season 10 ( which were on local TV around 2004 ) and ever since I completely gave up on them. Then 13 years later some guy with the name Super Eyepatch Wolf made this thing ( http://rainbowdash.net/url/874749 ) and I went... "Ahhh... The loss of writers was the death knell and Simpsons evolved into something it was never destined/intended to be"
And no I do not count coming home and glomping the couch after a long day of work where you accidentally hit the remote-control, TV turns on and the simpsons happens to be on so you watch it. I mean such levels of exhaustion do not happen often to me, but they do occasionally happen.
I might even quote homer when I see it, "Up next, it is the simpsons" ... Do'h ... I am not going anywhere for a while, I wish I had a Sgrapers... Hmm... SFrankerZrs droolSunday, 23-Jun-19 11:25:11 UTC from web -
@liquidusmira Yeah, I too have the feeling that one day I am going to wake up and rememeber my old nickname and password or something.
-
@drinkingpony 15 hours later Mission successfull, if not a really shoddy edit... I am sure that it has cycled at least 50 times now, with my co-worker none the wiser...
This payoff is going to be so worth it :D -
Does anyone remember Evil Spock ? ( http://rainbowdash.net/url/874731 , memory alpha link ).
I kinda have need for a quick photoshop of Elon Musk with an Evil Moustache like that. I'm probably going to spend tomorrow working on that when there is noone at work and nothing to do. As is usual for a Friday. Then when it is complete, throw it in the directory where one of my co-workers has his desktop picture set to refresh from. -
@adiwan Ohh http://rainbowdash.net/url/874730
That is wonderfull
user was shot for worse than terrible pun -
@mrmattimation And it seems to me that you are denying just how likely it is for history to repeat itself. I would be a lot more happy with it when historically actions which I describe as 'Rush Job' were more likely to give good products.
We'll see when the thing comes out. Then again we got here merely with me saying that "I lost hope" which was and still is a hyperbolic statement. -
@mrmattimation If something that is usually done subsequent is done simultaneously in order to meet a significantly more tight release schedule then...
Well what would you call it if you were specifically told not to call it a 'rush job' ?
You might want to look into how other modern movies are made, Especially Star Wars by Disney and MCU ( Also by Disney ). Though I guess there is tons to learn regarding failures by other studio's as well. For instance take http://rainbowdash.net/url/874715 ( 6:38 - 7:00 , would you look at that smug face, yowzers )
Now does it "have to" be bad that they are doing to SW:e9 ? Ofcourse not. However if I rub my crystal ball while throwing my geomancy rocks and somehow simultaneously manage to shake my magic 8 ball, wiggle my divination rod, flip some tarot cards, twiddle some fortune sticks AND use one of those human girly teenager fortune teller thingies. They would either tell me "Outlook not so good" or "You are about to have an accident" -
@mrmattimation Popular rule of thumb is, unless if I am mistaken and also forego all those people I know without thumbs, that the more of a rush-job something is the less likely it is that there is going to be a quality product.
TFA for once had a full year for edits and ( http://rainbowdash.net/url/874712 , http://rainbowdash.net/url/874713 , http://rainbowdash.net/url/874714 ) . IIRC the editors even got an Oscar for it. Not that that the Oscar's are much of a measuring stick these days but there you go.
I was hoping that they at least put the same people on it and gave them the "Hey, you remember what you did last time, do it again on a new movie, only quicker"
I am saying in that light, it looks really bad. -
Well, there goes the last of my hope.
Apparently Star Wars Episode 9 was being filmed and edited at the same time. ( http://rainbowdash.net/url/874706 ) It is already a miracle if a one-off movie is being made well by editing and filming at the same time, but for something that will be put under a magnifying lens by millions upon millions of Star Wars fans ?
Might as well brace for the insanity that will come from it. Idunno, Maybe blaming GamerGate as a reason why many people dislike a movie ( oh yes, that did happen previously, go read http://rainbowdash.net/url/874707 if you want to lose your faith in humanity )
But hey, who knows, maybe I am wrong. Time will tell. But I will reserve FULL rights to rant about it some more when time comes to pass. -

@adiwan soulcrushingly ? Wait, does that mean that it is a recommendation ?
-
@adiwan The only thing I can think of that would not be bad ( like the word 'Lose' would imply ) when loose is a timing scedule.
Pretty much the opposite of a deadline.
So... I guess it is pretty much always negative unless for that one in a million time it is not ? -
@adiwan I guess you see something I do not want to see in said spammers name.
Now I hope I can distract myself long enough with stupid nonsense so I will not dwell on it, after all you pretty much said there is something there :o -
Well, this is interesting. Today I learned that there are *.CID files which you can play in VLC player that are effectively just Amiga music files.
99.99% sure that most virus-killers on Windows would declare all sorts of Red Alert if I were to try and make a nice library of those things though. -
!techponies Read this manual with me for fun and giggles
1. 47 headphoneAmplifiercomponents installation drawing: from low to high principle, namely the first low welding components, such as resistor. Ohkay I sorta know what they mean here
Pay attention to the polarity, can not meet the. Element name element label polarity fair enough, I know what they mean here, there is a little table here pointing out that there is a polarity for things like LED and electrolyic capacitors, and it does not matter for the Monolythic capacitors & resistors.
But then
Shall not be plugged into the IC 5532 direction, otherwise will burn IC 5532
What ? ... I shall scour the internet looking for a YouTube video or something trying to explain this.
6 seconds later
Well I guess I will be watching this now before starting http://rainbowdash.net/url/874669Friday, 14-Jun-19 14:42:07 UTC from web -
This is the first picture I saw of the new 007, James Bond. He looks about ready to say "No Mr Villain, I expect you to fall asleep as I use my creep-face to watch you succumb. Which is my fool-proof scheme to give you vivid nightmares"
Just saying that even if Malek makes a great bond, this picture is none too flattering. http://rainbowdash.net/url/874667Friday, 14-Jun-19 09:30:07 UTC from web -
@mrmattimation Yes, every day. As for running out of magic juice to make it all better, that seems to be an eternal struggle.
That is why I occassionally have trips to either the liquor store, or Dr Liquor. No quite serious, that is her name.
I can recommend one for starters and the other for the advanced types of 'feeling down' -
Some boobthusiast just pointed out to me that Tifa's boobs are smaller in the FF7 remake.
1. I have not been interested in Tifa's model since I thought I saw an animation error somewhere in the movie-esque bit of FF7 where she falls on the airship and it is looking like something wants to burst from her midriff ( probably a modelling skeleton )
2. Where were you about 4 years ago when we were all amazed when she fought Yang ? http://rainbowdash.net/url/874647Wednesday, 12-Jun-19 10:09:44 UTC from web -
@ceruleanspark "Wily Beast and Weakest Creature", Demo came out May the 4th ( 2019 ).
I mostly know that because I heard some Star Wars geeks rant about it.
"Why would they DOOOO that , May the 4th should be sacred" -
@helenpurkey Welcome to what I am almost 100% sure is like a pony themed really slow chatbox.
Have you seen Bethesda's E3 ?Monday, 10-Jun-19 16:31:37 UTC from web -
@adiwan Ohh, thank you. I can work with that.
-
I wonder if it is possible to desolder the reset button on the ESP32-CAM and put it in a more tactical place ( for instance, on the side of a project-box ) I hope @Adiwan knows. I have not yet ordered the thing. Might be a kind of a deal-breaker.
-
@adiwan Which is good, but I still would understand those who who growel in protest as they grew up thinking that the bread of this particular baker was the best in the land.
-
@adiwan While that might be true, you do not go expect a baker to sell hammers without a hitch. Specifically in that you could have foreseen the original fans to complain about the decreasing selection of fresh bread.
-
@mrmattimation Well I am glad that settled this great debate on opinions regarding whether Diablo 4 was going to appeal to either of us.
Back to me ranting about a Starcraft FPS.
"It would have been SOOOO COOOOL !"
