context to my earlier post: i was racially profiled on my way home from work today because i'm brown and have a beard so a cop literally followed me from my store across town to another store because he thought i was doing a terrorism. literally was following me until I parked. saw me get out of my car, THEN made a u-turn and left the parking lot.

Welp... I have now 3 bikes. The newest addition is a folding bike. I got a used one for 120€ in a pretty good condition. I only have to add a dynamo and lights. The bell works but it is very prone of ringing by itself on a bumpy road, so I get a new one.

Got a note from a Republican running for office in my district claiming to want me to reach out to chat with him about his platform. Did just that, because his platform was appleing insane and would be more at-home in Nazi Germany. Am eagerly awaiting the response I am totally going to get

@zeldatra That is outright ghastly and entirely un-shocking. Have they started saying that 1/6 was "just a little riot" like MTG?
-
@scribus This is more or less the last time in probably a while that Republicans have a shot at winning a statewide election in Virginia, historically we’ve always voted against the incumbent party no matter what but that anti-White House sentiment, while not totally gone (Biden won the state by ten points but polling shows the race as a toss-up) is kind of diminishing (we used to see swings of like twenty points, now it’s closer to five) and by 2025 it’ll probably be gone entirely, so this entire campaign has just been a big last-ditch effort to maybe hold Richmond one last time. Nothing is too low if you’re going out anyway.
-
@scribus Glenn Youngkin for his part has tried to distance himself from Trump and January 6th mostly because he can’t afford for the DC suburbs to turn out against him and that’s exactly what they’ll do if they think he’s too much like Trump.

Got a modest 3% raise.

Here’s the thing. I didn’t *really* know her all that well. I’ve been at this store for two months and we worked in different departments. But I know her husband. We worked the evening shift together almost every night at my last store. Dude’s torn up right now and I feel so bad for him. Don’t mango talk his dead wife to me, or we’re gonna have major problems that involve your head and your ass meeting one another for the first time in your life.

Customer came in complaining that her cake order didn’t get finished on time. Told her that the baker died and so we were unable to finish today’s orders. She then asked who was going to make her cake because she needs it now. Certified customer service moment.

@scribus WTF
-
@scribus Usually there is someone responsible for the props, inventory, and blank ammo (without bullet).
-
@adiwan Yeah, it's been a real screwjob. The head armorer expressed doubt she was qualified, the union camera crew walked out mere hours before the incident because of two accidental discharges the previous week.

Hey guys, take it from someone who is now having to do it for the second time in as many years: having to pretend that an associate at your store is still alive until everyone is notified that she died in surgery this morning is Not Fun.

Well I just took my first Adderall. Time to see if it's ADHD or not, I guess!

No, not Donald Trump telling Republicans not to vote if he isn’t reinstated. Anything but that.
Thursday, 14-Oct-21 00:41:34 UTC from web-
@zeldatra See, the thing is, that all makes total sense... but Papa Spraytan doesn't, heh
-
@scribus Oh, also, if he WERE “reinstated” he technically would be allowed to run for a second full term because the only method possible for “reinstatement” involves Republicans winning back the House, making him Speaker, and somehow winning 17 extra Senate seats with a map where they’ll be lucky if they get three, then impeaching/removing Biden-Harris simultaneously for ?????, which obviously would not be possible until 2023, when the next Congress is sworn in. So long as he is sworn in on January 21st or later, he would be allowed to run for another four year term since finish that term would bring him to just under the constitutional limit of ten years. If that’s his plan, it’s an incredibly contrived and unrealistic plan, but it is technically a plan nonetheless.
-
@zeldatra Damn, that's right... Nth dimension chess for sure

My store really said “Columbus Day is racist? Dope” and ended holiday pay starting this year, a move negotiated with and sanctioned by UFCW, of course.
Tuesday, 12-Oct-21 02:51:06 UTC from web-
@zeldatra Tell them it's equally-or-more racist to NOT pay for Indigenous Peoples Day
-
@scribus They didn’t pay us for Juneteenth either despite Congress having made it a federal holiday and The President having signed the bill the week before. Said it was “too late” to change payroll, which is BS.
-
@zeldatra not that accounting can amend it afterwards and give the money with the next paychexk

don’t really see the point in a Nickelodeon crossover fighter if you aren’t gonna have VO. Makes the crossover aspect feel hollow if these cartoon characters are all mutes without personalities. Just play Smash Bros. at that point.
Friday, 08-Oct-21 17:19:30 UTC from web-
@zeldatra R&S seems so loaded, I'm surprised they'd even make mute or impersonated appearances
-
@scribus I made a video about this last year, but the basic gist of it was that John K. was fired so early into the show’s initial run that it kind of wasn’t even his show anymore by the time the original series ended, so I personally don’t think R&S should necessarily carry his baggage, especially since we don’t really apply that same standard to more recent works with creators who were disgraced for similar reasons (The Loud House got a movie this year, even). https://youtu.be/1bVrf7n_Yek
-
@zeldatra That makes some sense. I never watched it, growing up, or really at all, so I know pretty much zilch on the topic directly. Mostly just aware that separating the achievement from the achiever is always thorny; for example, slave-owners who wrote a legal document that said "all men are created equal."

Tyres are expensive.
Friday, 08-Oct-21 07:48:12 UTC from web-
@scribus All-season car tyres with aluminium rims what I have ordered. I didn't want to cheap out on something that will last a while and is essential for safety. Also a little bit for the looks doesn't hurt in the whole scheme of things. Steel rims are half as expensive but are also adding unnecessary weight and look like ass.
-
@adiwan And isn't steel at risk if you live anywhere with weather? Salt for snow, or even just beach-salt...
-
@scribus Yeah... My old (and stolen) car had steel rims. They had quite the rusty spots but they were covered by a plastic cap that gave the illusion they were nicer.

gotta use Adobe Animate's automatic lipsync tool for this cartoon due to time constraints and it's pretty bad, BUT it gives me a pretty good baseline, so even though I need to redo a lot of it, it still saves me a lot of time. Hopefully once I understand it’s speech recognition algorithm a little better I’ll be able to get it so I don’t have to tweak the output as much.
Friday, 08-Oct-21 08:40:59 UTC from web-
@zeldatra Ugh, speech recognition... I still feel like I enunciate WAY too well to struggle with it as much as I do

@adiwan Nice!

@scribus Thanks. I was really lucky mixing the base color to get the gray with the blue-ish tint I was aiming for. Because of the size I bought a cheap acrylic paint set and mixed white and black in a 1:1 ratio and then added about 1/3 of that amount with navy blue, and added a bunch of drops of silver metallic paint. Depending on the time of day it looks more blue or gray. On the other hand I had troubles getting rid of the layer lines using filler primer, sandpaper and files, especially the sides towards the center.

I'm baffled by the number of battery-operated (internal rechargeable via USB or conventionally insertable AA or AAA) lights for bikes that are being sold. There is a thing called dynamo. No hassle recharging, always attached at the bike, reliable. There are hub dynamos that have almost no resistance (only the induced electrical field has some resistance) and are silent. It makes me somewhat annoyed and mad that people buy this crap. Additional lights... fine. But they are mostly advertised as main front and rear lights.
Friday, 24-Sep-21 08:56:14 UTC from web-
@adiwan I always kind of wanted one on my bike, but I also get ripped off so damn often that I can't bring myself to make a serious investment in it. They stole my seat!! I've had people steal my little speedometer, but not the tire attachment that actually makes it work! I watched a jerk ride off on my bike itself, and was a half-swcond too late in being certain to clothesline them... and my present borderline-cheapo bike is all rusted and sun-damaged.

@scribus Woah. That's heavy.
