@northernnarwhal As I said, credible characters are the exception. Mumen Raider is the only semi-important character I can think of like that.

@northernnarwhal I see it as a show that's from the lets go presented as a joke unto itself, where almost everything is ridiculous and over the top, from the action to the characters to the stereotypes. Almost every character is extreme in all it's traits. Balanced, credible characters are the exception.

@northernnarwhal I guess our different priorities are kind of why I disagree with you there. You're definitely more perceptive than me on the matter, but I consider OPM to be in the same boat as shows like BoJack and Rick and Morty, where the first season has a fraction of the depth that the overall story will have, and is more of an establishment than a full-throttle nosedive

@northernnarwhal It's basically the subversion of the usual drama sprinkled with humor to lighten the mood, having instead mostly humor sprinkled with action and drama.

@northernnarwhal I think season 1 mainly suffers because it was written by a humble webcomic artist. It's not like it's low-budget; I truly think that as it diverges from the original comic in later seasons it will manage to improve its character development and writing

@northernnarwhal He's hilarious and ridiculous yet completely lovable. He's not intrinsically insulting any group, the show makes it VERY clear that the character is an exception to the norm. He's not more insulting that a stereotypical beer-guzzling axe-flinging super macho lumberjack, to give an example. I miss when people would just see these things as funny and not complain about them.
