My poor Blackberry is deteriorating faster than I expected. It shuts down at 40% battery charge when there is a bigger power draw. Effectively I have to keep it on the charger all the day to make sure it's not dying immediately but it also makes my situation worse because it is constantly on the charger. My search for a new smartphone has been accelerated.

@adiwan It sucks, man. Godspeed.

https://youtu.be/G6wlpkOSLI0 Modified Chitose's basic attack to look more like something Haruka would've learned through observation. First two hits are Chitose's regular rush combo, but the third is now an edited version of Kiryu's Dragon style high kick.
about 4 months ago from web-
@zeldatra second hit is also slightly changed in that it now launches for a slightly flashier looking hit as originally it lacked impact. I'm told this makes it impossible for enemies to dodge mid combo which is probably why RGG didn't do this to begin with but they already were not dodging mid combo very much so i don't personally think it changes the balance too much

The state of Linux desktop environments for old hardware (i.e. ASUS EEE PC 1000H) is abysmal. I love KDE but the current version is unusable. The same goes for GNOME, which is furthermore hampered by being unusable because of UX reasons. Even the "classic" Gnome is horrible performance-wise. MATE is a tad better but I don't like it. The only real choice I have is XFCE. It is fine with a huge GNOME-influenced asterisk. I'm looking into Enlightenment but it also irks me a lot.
about 4 months ago from web-
@adiwan Unless you aim for full minimalist, there really has been a lot of UI bloat of late
-
@scribus I want to keep it conventionally usable. I'm not going fool hacker-mode by using one of the many tiling window managers. Right now I got Enlightenment to behave and runs well enough for now. If all my patience is gone I'll go to Windows XP.

Life lesson: It's easier to solder two stacking PCBs together via pins than to remove all that solder to disassemble. I got a new solder sucker and it sucks. I mean it is not very good. That solder sucker is an iFixit solder sucker and i'd give it a rating of 2.5 out of 5 stars. The nozzle is way too big for 2.54mm pitched pins and the suction action itself is a little bit too weak.

@adiwan Get one of those solder stations that have both and an hot air pistol, they're only like $100 nowadays.

It’s a little weird that one of the most well-known and revered Christmas films of all time came out twenty years ago and stars Will Ferrel, right?

good lord do not ever let me make a video game, i am certain i am violating every coding best practice
about 4 months ago from web-
@zeldatra At least you got practice, even when it's not the best. I'm a software developer for over 7 years and in my last project (ended a few days ago) it is littered with crimes I did. Mostly because I was not given enough time to do it properly. It is of great value to know which "technical debt" one has caused and how to mitigate it next time. There are only a few principles one has to follow to write good code like writing modular code that has as few dependencies as possible to solve the problem, naming the variables and functions and classes clear enough such that they convey their intent unmistakably, and writing code that can be reused. The last point is a nice to have but for a small project it is probably too much hassle except it is really needed more than once in the program. Otherwise software is malleable enough to be rewritten with the power given by the knowledge of hindsight, meaning good ol' refactoring.

Kaito never enters a building in Lost Judgment that requires him to take off his shoes. I learned this when his feet suddenly disappeared after I entered a shrine in Infinite Wealth.
about 4 months ago from web-
@zeldatra In the Kaito Files DLC he has socks on when he enters the Doctor's home. https://youtu.be/gAqdA1D9YJM?t=11438 I believe that they are socks and not shoes. They are very dark and featureless.
-
@adiwan His Kaito files model is stored in a separate location for whatever reason, I think I grabbed his base game model by mistake.
-
-
Also Yagami (and Kaito’s) entries in the party database seem to genuinely stem from RGG just adding protagonists sequentially with each new game going back to Yakuza 6; Kiryu is 1, Majima is 2, Yagami is 3, Ichiban is 4, and his yakuza 7 party + Masumi Arakawa fills out the remainder before we suddenly start getting LJ side characters; seems the ones who follow you around worked internally like Y7’s party members even though most of them don’t ever join you in combat.
about 5 months ago from web -
http://rainbowdash.net/url/876675 Kaito’s here now too just because I wanted practice

Weird factoids about playable Haruka:
-she is capable of doing all of Kiryu’s minigames although because she is much shorter some of her animations are a bit weird, IE she doesn’t reach the handlebars in Can Quest. Not sure how easy the fix for those things is because although I COULD tweak the animations, they’re meant to be universal so switching the party leader to anyone else breaks the animations for them.
-she CANNOT play most of Kasuga’s minigames, he takes over for those. Likely has something to do with the game switching to his cutscene model or something like that, I haven’t looked too deep into it yet.about 5 months ago from web-
-she CAN however go to Dondoko Island. The only issue I’ve found there is that she has no voice lines for greeting villagers, although she does not reuse Kasuga’s like I thought she would; she simply doesn’t say anything at all, opting to wave instead. That’s interesting as hell. Pulling audio from other Rie Kugimiya/Xanthe Hyunh projects probably fixes this.
-When taking selfies she either starts speaking in Kiryu’s voice (when in Japan) or Kasuga’s (in Hawaii). Not sure if this is fixable.

“Suck Up!” is the right way to do a generative AI-based video game. No stolen art assets, no cheap Unreal Marketplace sets with a shoddy text to speech voice actor, just a whole lot of fun attempting to gaslight a neighborhood of ChatGPTs with their own personalities.

@zeldatra That looks like a fun one, I really need to get my desktop fixed (again)

Cities Skylines 2 is so great, I love how the entire town will all choose one road to drive on so no matter how many new highways you build they will all decide to clog up a suburban street forty miles away because they all decided that is the best way to work
about 5 months ago from web-
@zeldatra Such realism tho (/s(?))
-
@scribus I tested it by building a second “express” highway that covers the same distance and takes you STRAIGHT into key locations with no exits, inspired by I-66 from Virginia to DC where the USDOT did exactly that, and nobody took it. They all preferred to drive on the original. I’m guessing the only calculation the game makes is distance traveled and not “does taking this road actually save me any time”.

There are theories about a hollow earth, which are obviously stupid. I have have also a theory on my own: the hollow head theory, which shows more and more signs each day that provide evidence that it might be true.

Ah... Projects that search for people who can do EVERYTHING THE BEST. C++, Java, Python, Bash. Everything at expert level and at least 5 years of DOCUMENTED JOB experience. Also at least of 3 years of experience in transportation and logistics related projects. DUDE... I can rather deliver a unicorn than these specific requirements. I'd like to get into that project, however the project owner is very strict with these requirements.

Crazy idea: A bed that is basically a bean bag, except the outer layer is airtight. When laying on the bed the body sinks in and with an applied vacuum to the bean bag the sleeping position gets fixed. I don't know how comfortable or uncomfortable this might be but at least it prevents contorting oneself into a painful position. I cannot count how many times I slept in a way that made my back hurt or pinched a nerve or even restricted blood flow to my arms.

@scribus Eventually we, as a society, will end up in a dystopia that is Demolition Man before cryosleep will be possible. I had a discussion with a friend about cryosleep. He says if all the cell tissue problems are solved that come with cryosleep then cryosleep won't be necessary. It means that if a method exists that repairs or reverses all the damage that cryosleep induces then there is a method for making a person live forever and thus making cryosleep not necessary.
-
@adiwan So still a kink thing, then
-
@adiwan There have been huge developments in aging reversal and prevention these last few months actually, working off potential treatments for premature aging disease they discovered what part of the organism codes the timeframes for aging, and they can be modified to force the body to slow or reverse it, thus greatly extending the "good years"
Current testing is on organisms affected by the disease originally investigated.

I think it's probably time to be honest about this: I have neither the time, nor the motivation to work on this place anymore. There's stuff going on in my personal life I'd rather not get into, so in short: I'm probably going to finally turn this place off in the next few months. If you're interested in taking ownership, let me know, but know that I'd only be comfortable handing it off to someone I know and trust, rather than any rando that shows up.

@ceruleanspark Thanks for all the memories, this site was a core part of my adolescence. Found it early in high school right as I was becoming my own self and still think fondly of it even if I haven't regularly used it in a decade. It's always been nice to pop in and see familiar names. If anyone wants to keep up post RDN my Steam and FB links are in my profile. I wish everyone the best in life!
-
@ceruleanspark Thanks for all the hard work over the years. This was a fun place to hang out when I was but a friendless kiddo dealing with middle school angst- don't know how I could have stood it without. Hope all will be well; if not now, then in the future.
-
@ceruleanspark Thanks for keeping it up for so long. I don't post often, but I check in now and then. Made all my first fedifriends over here and I'm thankful it has lasted this long. Gonna miss everypony.
