Putin or more like Poo-Teen
Wednesday, 02-Mar-22 05:58:01 UTC from web-
@adiwan Nah, that sounds too much like talking crap on poutine
-
@scribus My bad. I don't want to put poutine's name in vain. I just looked up how it is pronounced https://translate.google.com/?sl=auto&tl=de&text=%D0%9F%D1%83%D1%82%D0%B8%D0%BD&op=translate It appears to sound more like "poot yen"
-
@adiwan Oh yeah, that would be a more French pronunciation, wouldn't it?

gonna use Australia instead, what the Potato Knishes are they gonna do about it
Saturday, 26-Feb-22 07:46:19 UTC from web-
@zeldatra Better hope the Emus don't rise again
-
@scribus the big disincentive to using Australia now, besides the emu uprising, is that it ruins a joke in Swole Foods. One script has a borderline senile old man recounting a battle he fought in Australia; with his senility being the joke. But then a script that’s placed later in the timeline has a character who works for the government mention the same event, making it more credible; a third script then finally reveals that in this universe, NATO fought an atomic war against Australia. I might just generically say “a country in the East” or something like that instead.

then i haha'd her storied, she came in my DMs and said she'd send me her pics if i sent her mine, then i said "lol, no, i'm not sending you those pics", but she sent hers anyway
then later she started asking me to let her use my paypal account to recieve payments from the gringos she sold packs to, i said i wouldnt and taught her how to open her paypay account
she got angry, called me rude and unfriended me.

It kind of feels wrong to be doing a show set in Virginia that touches heavily on internet culture and not having a single Chris Chan reference (she’s from Henrico County) so I dropped a Sonichu license plate on one of the CGI vehicles. That’s about as far as I’m willing to go though considering recent circumstances

I think I can remove the idea out of my head to get a proper keyboard smartphone ever again. I guess the next upgrade will be a soulless slab. I guess also it'll be a Google Pixel or similar with a reasonably good outlook for software updates.
Tuesday, 15-Feb-22 17:06:08 UTC from web-
@adiwan I've been eyeballing a Pinephone https://wiki.pine64.org/wiki/PinePhone_(Pro)_Keyboard because I seem to thrive in self-induced misery lol
-
@scribus I believe that I'll be quite unhappy with a phone from a niche manufacturer. TCL's Blackberry phones are the minimum quality I expect and that one does not fill me with confidence. Also I don't want a fold-out keyboard. At max I can live with a slider style or whatever the HTC Desire Z was.
-
@adiwan Yeah, failing a better solution I've side-eyed a KeyTWO, new-old-stock. Sliding horizontal keyboard is probably still my favorite, I had an old LG (Ally?) that did that.

on one hand using AI to replicate actors’ and musicians’ voices is like really weird and shady and isn’t going to end well, but on the other hand, as an internet creator, it seems like a golden opportunity to parody movies that get popular artists to perform marginally related songs for the soundtracks by performing some stupid, tongue-in-cheek blockbuster-style song about Undertale and then using AI to replace my voice with Eminem or something like that.
Friday, 11-Feb-22 08:33:13 UTC from web-
@zeldatra You don't have to go that far. A friend of mine uses Text To Speech (AI assisted or not) for his game jam games. It is often a blessing not to hear the programmer doing the voices. I played too many game jam games where a non-native and heavily accented English speaker tries to speak into a crappy gaming-microphone in the most monotone and least engaging way. I genuinely think that the TTS from google at http://translate.google.com delivers better an emotion than these crappy attempts.
-
@zeldatra I'm seriously curious if four years of narrating a podcast has made my voice public enough to theoretically steal

I got a monitor and docking station from work. Now I can live the multi-monitor life at home!
Wednesday, 09-Feb-22 18:15:35 UTC from web-
@adiwan I've got a 7" monitor I've tried dual-ing with. It's a lot nicer than the 3" built-in screen on my camera, but really insufficient for modern desktop use lol
-
@scribus Haha. Are you using an external display for a video camera? It is surely a great help keeping oneself in the shot when no cameraman is available.
-
@adiwan Yeah, I had bought it for "selfie-ing" I guess, lol. But I've had some success using it for stationary photography (like birds on the bird feeder) where it lets me see much better to begin with and lets me be sure of the shot before I hit the remote switch.

Start with something super unbelievable, that way the stuff that’s only mildly unbelievable is pretty believable in comparison.
Sunday, 30-Jan-22 04:52:32 UTC from web-
@zeldatra Just about the exact inverse of what I'm trying to do. Want them to believe a near-future cyberpunk urban center, with human/animal hybrids, which eventually develops real-deal Magic and ends up making contact with >3rd dimensional intelligence? Start with something standard, like a murder procedural, so they're not entirely flippin' lost lol
-
@scribus the way I see it - since *my* universe is usually grounded pretty firmly in reality, starting with some really crazy grape off the bat means nothing’s off the table. Futurama’s first season goes from 1999 New York to literally the edge of the universe, so for the entire rest of the show they could go literally anywhere in between.

@zeldatra How lively
-
@zeldatra I wonder how much of this kind of crap you won't be able to use in Swole Foods because nobody would believe it even in a cartoon
-
@scribus it’s probably helped by the fact that I’m planning to do a couple of over-the-top high concept episodes right off the bat so people don’t start telling me I’ve jumped the shark after I do something really out there. “Kat’s new co-worker is a neo-Nazi” is waaaay less over-the-top than “Kat accidentally joins a mafia family after volunteering at an old folks’ home”.

I'm at a point that if the destination is within 4km I rather use the bike. Well... Only if it's not pouring rain. I bought a rain poncho and have it always in my backpack but it's already uncomfortable enough when the moisture accumulates under my jacket. I don't need more from the outside.
Friday, 28-Jan-22 19:03:25 UTC from web-
@adiwan My poor bike got so rusted and sun-destroyed over the pandemic, but I also just can't ride the damn thing anywhere. Super jealous, lol
-
@scribus Oh yeah. The USA is not very bike friendly from all the videos I've seen. I'd be terrified to cycle there and would do only that on the sidewalks if at all. To protect my bike from the elements and thieves I always put it back into the cellar. It takes a few minutes to put it in and out but at least it'll last a bit longer. A neighbor has a steel frame bike and it has developed an even rust coating.

Thursday, 27-Jan-22 22:39:45 UTC from web-
@zeldatra ugh I hate that, because yeah it's usually on "sale" to buy 3 and get one "free," and sure it's convenient to not have to worry about which ones are the old ones, but damnit four expensive things all at one time?? :(
-
@scribus could tell the guy was getting paid extra to push a particular brand too… he showed me the most expensive one first and was like “this one’s good for snow”, then showed me a seemingly identical one from another brand and was like “this one’s ok too, I guess… it’s made for all weather conditions… but it’s really not as good, I wouldn’t even bother”

@adiwan There may be a Canadian or two to pop back in every couple of months, but I don't know if any of them were from/around Montreal

I’m thinking about these things because I’m about to get stranded at work because of a snowstorm so I’m gonna have a lot of time to myself.

@zeldatra At least there will be plenty of empty shelves to bunk on
-
@scribus funny thing about that: our fresh truck came in finally and the dry shelves have been fully stocked for weeks, no idea where the media is getting those photos of bare shelves in the DC area
-
@zeldatra I've seen a couple of bare shelves out here, but I suspect a lot of the news photos come after-hours or something.

The Eternals movie was a dud. The actors were all good but the plot and direction were my main issues. Good that I didn't waste my money going to the cinema for that.
