          • @mrmattimation Was it that she was trying to save face or appear the bigger person between her and Trump or am I just seeing it that way?

Sunday, 16-Jul-17 03:07:11 UTC in context
          • @awl Personally? I don't think it was any of that. It all comes down to the fact that she didn't campaign ENOUGH, not that she did campaign poorly where she did campaign. (She did, but that's not the point, because so did Trump.) I think it was that she forgot to take into account the fact that it only takes a one-vote loss to ruin an election. She lost the rust belt states by incredibly narrow margins, because overall those states probably did lean in favor of her, but a simple lean isn't enough. She didn't campaign in any of those states because 51% of them said they liked her. But not all 51% of those people are voters. Trump campaigned like an idiot, but he campaigned like an idiot in states where Clinton didn't campaign at all.

          • @mrmattimation Even though I don't agree with the film Idiocracy nor subscribe to the idea that we're getting dumber, man with this continuing fad it is difficult not to draw connecting lines. But hey if this is the way we learn (hopefully) that this is bad, then we'll just have to bear it.

          • @awl This is not a new or original thought, but I firmly believe we've been going in this sort of direction since ~2008 and that it's going to sort of die off in the next couple of years. Obama was elected on a very similar note to Trump, and Trump was elected on a very similar platform to what a lot of these celebrities and other outsiders will try to run on in 2018 and 2020. We're very much in a "that old thing sucks, let's replace everything" state of mind right now, which I think was part of Hillary's problem. She ran her campaign in a way that made her seem like Obama II, so it was very easy for her opponents—both Trump and Sander—to say "everything sucks and she won't do anything about it".

          • @mrmattimation Well I'd say the whole "that old thing sucks" state of mind has certainly been amplified in the States but isn't new. How many candidates in history have run on a similar premise of Change?

If these current idiots got things done and weren't crass in the processes I wouldn't mind as much, but it's like the respectful position and playings of Western statesmanhood is thrown out the window.
