      • It was the same when I did Photography. Basically every piece of work I did was just a result of an idea that the teacher had dictated to me (after she basically shut down any idea that I might have had)

        • Art is such a wonderful thing but it seems having people teach it can be frustrating, because each teacher will have their own aesthetic, which in a lot of cases, seems to make it difficult for them to remain open-minded about others' ideas. I suppose the same could be said for anything that can be "taught", but relies heavily on creativity.

              • With MGSV being addicting as FrankerZ, Fallout 4 and Bloodborne DLC being just a couple of months away, and nothing really on the horizon for Nintendo until Starfox Zero which has been delayed until next year (even then Dark Souls 3 will be out soon enough), I don't see myself getting any entertainment from Nintendo stuff for a long while. Which is somewhat sad because I sometimes consider myself a huge Nintendo fanboy, but in recent years that's just been something that seems to fluctuate.

                • @ellistia I feel like I'd definitely recommend the game to any fan of action games, but it's understandable to not be intrigued by it. Taking it for what it is (team based third-person-shooter/action game with focus on online multiplayer) it's certainly pretty far from "my kind of game", but I picked it up anyway because I was in the mood for something new and absolutely loved the designs/artwork for the game. If my profile image wasn't indicative enough I ended up really loving the game, both for its unique take on a saturated genre and for its fantastic aesthetic design choices, not to mention its great sense of personality. The game has admittedly been very hyped, but it actually managed to get me back into gaming earlier this year since before I started playing it I hadn't really been doing much gaming at all aside from the occasional pickup game of Smash here and there. But hey, not being interested is totally fine too, at the end of the day just play what you wanna play.

                • @northernnarwhal Mhm. I feel like it's something I would have enjoyed a lot for a while, but soon get bored of it. Then again they did the thing where they add something new like every week, so who knows. I don't doubt that did at least miss out on something pretty great in any case. I'm just glad I don't feel pressured into playing it just because everyone else is, cause that would be annoying if I had the game and had gotten bored of it. Instead I can just be like "oh well, I don't have the game so there's nothing I can do about it" :P

                • @ellistia Yeah, obviously my knee-jerk reaction with things I like is to nag other people to check them out but recently I've been trying to draw a better line between "recommending" and "pressuring", and while I wasn't able to put the game down when I had it your experience with it might be totally different. And yeah, you don't have to play stuff just because it's popular either. Lots of my offline friends really love playing League of Legends and have tried to get me into it but after playing it for a bit I just couldn't get into it at all, I got really bored really quickly playing it.

                      • @ellistia Yeah, I'm going to a career college for audio engineering and a large portion of my curriculum deals with professions in the music industry, so I can certainly sympathize with the prospect of having to reconcile your passion with potentially stable employment. I myself am still not entirely sure what I'm going to end up doing when I graduate, but I'll hopefully fall into something I can enjoy doing. I guess maybe your best bet is to shoot for graphic design and continue your art on the side and see if you can work your way from there. The stress is sadly another issue entirely though, and one that is really difficult to provide any simple answers too (especially since recently I myself have been very stressed trying to balance all of my coursework with my current job).

                      • @northernnarwhal Yeah, hoping that whatever I end up getting gives me leeway to keep arting. Stress nearly cost me my degree on more than one occassion (basically telling myself to give up, etc.) so it's probably going to be something I just have to deal with whatever happens.

                      • @ellistia Yeah, in a lot of cases stress is sort of unavoidable, I think for me the joy when I'm actually still able to finish everything in spite of my stress or just having an artistic outlet to put my stress into is what really keeps me going.
