  1. @tequilasunrise !bcbronies Not necessarily, since @echron1000 is still freaking out about it. So, will neither of those things be provided in the Metrotown meeting room? How big is it? Is there a max capacity? Can someone in the group rent out a projector from their school? If there's free internet at the convention centre, I'll bring my laptop and try to download a 1080p version off Youtube a couple hours before 7:00, there's generally one already uploaded by 6:00 when I'm off work.

  2. @echron1000 !bcbronies Yes. You are. We need to plan this before jumping head-first into gathering funds. I've got a freakishly busy weekend with school projects and can't waste an hour going to Fleetwood and back just to drop off five bucks. If there's a way to plan or pay for this online, I'm willing to give the whole downpayment if everyone can give me 5-10 bucks at the door on the day of the meetup. Is there a max capacity for the room? Is there an internet connection there or at least one at the convention centre? We need to be able to have the episode before we can play it. Is this for a room with a TV or better yet a projector? And you're absolutely certain it closes at 9, right? We need to plan this as much as we can before we pay for it.

  3. @tequilasunrise !bcbronies If we can find somewhere that'll let us do it after 7:00 when the convention ends, and if our island buddies won't have a problem with it (might be tight timing catching the last ferry) I think that might be the best option, time-wise.

  4. @echron1000 !bcbronies There still isn't a schedule up for Fan Expo on that Saturday, though it appears it'll go from 10-7. How can we plan this around the convention?

  5. !bcbronies Also, there's a pretty damn big Abbotsford brony Facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/groups/236836906360316/ If you're in the area and use FB, maybe check it out.

  6. !Bcbronies Right-o. I added myself to the http://www.facebook.com/groups/359859357399707/360945623957747/ page just 'cause I founded this group, but I don' use Facebook much and I'm wondering if another very active member of this group who likes using Facebook and doesn't mind being in a new active group would like to represent us.

  7. @tjdetweiler !bcbronies As I said, we don't know the schedule yet, so we can't really plan a specific meetup time/place. At PAX, what we did (Which worked quite nicely) is we set an area and a certain portion of time (~11:30-1:00 or something) when people could come and go, based on panels they wanted to attend. Feel free to get twenty people crowded around a netbook and watching the episodes (I believe both parts of the finale are airing the same day), but I'd rather hang out and chat and maybe have lunch for half an hour or so, then get back to the convention and watch it on a big ol' screen when I get home. Conventions tend to be kinda noisy, and unless we can find somewhere we can watch it at a reasonable volume (and perhaps on a decent-sized screen) where we're not going to be bothering people, I still say watching the episodes after the con is a better idea. If we can rent out a room with a projector somewhere or something, I might be game though.

  9. !bcbronies I would like to voice this concern and hopefully set some relevant ground rules right now regarding Fan Expo. The season finale is airing that Saturday. People will be busy that Saturday with the con. If you see the episode during the Saturday, do NOT bring it up during the con that day, most of us likely have not seen it yet. Most of us, however, will probably have time to watch it that night or before the con on Sunday, so some discussion will be fair game on Sunday. Does this sound fair to people? Also, be mindful that John Delancie's there chiefly for his role as Q and that Discord is just a minor thing he's done. He'll surely be fine signing pony stuff, but just don't overwhelm him too much.

  10. @mcbrony !bcbronies Unfortunately, due to all the porn suddenly being drawn by little girls, the show has been cancelled, including the remainder of season 2 as well. This is indeed a most unfortunate APRIL FIRST.

  11. @garyoak !bcbronies It'll be tough to plan this until the schedule for the con is announced.

  12. @tjdetweiler !bcbronies Fan Expo Vancouver, that is. Just so we're all on the same page. And time zone. Also, holy hell, TJ Detweiler? Heck yes, Recess was badass.

  13. @seanprice !bcbronies Heck YEAH Fan Expo, us guys should figure out how/when/where we might meet up during it. Are schedules out? Maybe it could be a lunchtime thing like back at PAX.

  14. @starsisters100 We've got weekly meetups on Saturdays but I don't think we've got any plans for more major ones yet. We're sure to be at any conventions in the area coming up, particularly Fan Expo in April, but ask the group (using an exclamation mark, !bcbronies or !vancouverbronies) if you want more details.

  16. @therealscoutaloo !bcbronies They had some sort of server update or something. A whole bunch of posts got lost, I wonder if they're going to be able to retrieve any of them.

  17. @darkmacross !bcbronies I seem to recall a 14-year-old and 12-year-old hanging out at one of the bigger meetups once, you guys should be fine. We're mostly late-teens and early-20s but as long as you guys aren't being obnoxious or anything I don't think there'll be a problem. That said, I can never make it to the weeklies anyway, but whatever.

  18. @mcbrony !bcbronies It's a dumbass at McDonald's at night. The only reason he was there was to get into a fight, and you walked straight into his plan. No harm no foul as long as we don't see some big "My Little Brawl" headline or you don't wind up in prison or something. You were fairly vague as to what you actually did in response. I figured out how to deal with cherries like that just after high school, though it does mostly depend heavily on context and tone and whatnot.

  20. @arctempest !bcbronies Er, I just kinda went in a circle with my points there. Addendum: Planned well in advance, a really big meetup that's not quite on the same scale as Everfree could work very nicely as well, but just bear in mind the difficulty involved in planning all this. The simpler and the cheaper, the better it'll generally be, and the issue with Vancouver is that perhaps the simplest idea - some sort of outdoor thing like a picnic or barbecue or something - would be pretty damn hard to plan due to our weather patterns. Long story short, I'm sleepy and can't get my points across straight.

  21. @arctempest !bcbronies Yeah, that's the thing. EF is the entire large-scale northwestern Brony convention and compared to a lot of places people are coming from to attend, it's right at our back door. A "Bronycon Canada", as it would be, is pretty unrealistic, due to the crazy size of Canada, and any sort of central location would wind up being so much further away for lots of people than an equivalent US con would be. I suppose you can plan a very large-scale BC/Alberta/Yukon(?)/Washington(??) brony meetup/convention, it's just that with Everfree already having so much headway and being so close, it seems smarter to me to have more attendees save their money and just come to that one.

Thursday, 08-Mar-12 05:50:53 UTC from web in context
  22. @arctempest !bcbronies Yeah, like @tophat said, Everfree's your best bet. It's down in Seattle, which is quite convenient, considering the alternatives. It's also got an amazing planning committee and I think a really big BC-based Canada-wide meetup/festival/convention would just cannibalize attendees. Plenty of time before August to get a passport if you don't have one. And if you can't make it, then the best option's probably to meet with a lot of bronies at pre-existing conventions or to just go to any bigger-scale meetups we plan on here.

  27. !bcbronies Hey! I looked carefully at the Nightly Roundup and some guys in Abbotsford are tryin' to have a meetup and they don't seem to know about this group. Let's let 'em know we exist, http://www.facebook.com/events/313676072015517/
