  1. Also, what is this about Cabal and Know Your Meme and Sony and money?

    1. @communistprime It's too stupid for me to adequately express using only words. Check Purple Tinker's timeline for the whole, stupid, story.

    2. @communistprime or don't. You'll probably be happier that way.

    3. @communistprime Basically it goes like this. Way back in the days before ponies, Cabal fought alongside Anonymous against Sony's corporate BS which I wont get into because it's a whole other story. Anyways, Cabal is boycotting the meetup because KYM receives money and support from Sony to continue it's operations (and to a degree profit from internet memes). This basically goes against everything Cabal stands for and will refuse to show up if the KYM invitation is not revoked. Cabal is also (and legitimately should be) afraid that Anonymous will still continue it's campaign against Sony under Operation: Stop Their Scheme. In addition, Cabal is convinced that KYM will try and poke fun at the fandom as most internet hate machines do. Personally, I don't blame him. He's sticking with his own ideologies and putting the good of this community above con attendance.

      1. @gangstashy That is an interesting story and I'd like to look for the conversation but I can't find it. I need to weed out my subscriptions or something, geeze.

        1. @communistprime http://rainbowdash.net/conversation/119305#notice-527684 convo starts here.

      2. @gangstashy Yeah... I have mixed feelings about this. Maybe because I've only taken KYM's activities on surface level... I thought they were surprisingly cool about Bronydom on the whole. But it seems I know not the whole story...

        1. @pawnheart I think @cabal might be stretching it a tad., but I totally understand his reasoning. Cabal is an avid supporter of open source, Creative Commons, and internet rights. Basically Sony would like to take a huge crap over all of those, and he's not gonna have any of it. I'm really gonna have to side with him here and say that I really don't like what Sony does either, let alone most corporations who've stuck there fingers into the internet.

Wednesday, 21-Sep-11 12:42:21 UTC from web
          1. @gangstashy Yeah, I wasn't aware of the intensity of Sony's standpoint on this, tbh.

Wednesday, 21-Sep-11 12:44:07 UTC from web
            1. @pawnheart Yeeeah, sony's kind of a kiwi online.

              1. @gangstashy Oh wait... how could I forget that BMG is a subsidiary of Sony? Yeah... they're kind of... fascist on Youtube.

Wednesday, 21-Sep-11 12:50:48 UTC from web
                1. @pawnheart Yep!

    4. @ponydude2143 You get that anyways, anywhere. But if KYM showed up, Bronycon would basically turn into a battlefield.

Wednesday, 21-Sep-11 12:43:52 UTC from web
      1. @gangstashy Or... by the sounds of it... it may be MADE into one... I mean, are KYM actually spoiling for a fight with the bronies, or something?

Wednesday, 21-Sep-11 12:45:47 UTC from web
        1. @pawnheart Seems more like the other way around to me.

          1. @ceruleanspark Thats what I mean...

Wednesday, 21-Sep-11 12:48:48 UTC from web
          2. @ceruleanspark @pawnheart I don't think anyone's spoiling for a fight at all, Cabal just ideologically opposes KYM and is afraid crap with anon might go down at the con

            1. @gangstashy I have no problem with that ideology, I have a problem with the way he has chosen to exhibit it. Could he possibly have behaved more childishly than WELL IF YOU'RE HANGING OUT WITH THEM THEN WE CAN'T PLAY TOGETHER ANYMORE AND NO ONE ELSE SHOULD PLAY WITH YOU EITHER. FAV AND RETWEET PLZ?

Wednesday, 21-Sep-11 12:56:44 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
              1. @ceruleanspark Yeah true. But considering he had a link to Oppose the IP act on RDN since like forever, it doesn't surprise me he'd be avid about that either.

                1. @gangstashy If he'd just mailed PT and said "I have a moral objection to appearing at an event alongside X" and tried to discuss it like adults, there would be no probelm. Instead he decided to turn it into a huge issue on a public forum. At what point does it stop being about the ideological issue and become attention whoring?

Wednesday, 21-Sep-11 13:03:31 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
    5. @ponydude2143 All I'm gonna say is, no one owns the internet, so why should it be censored.

Wednesday, 21-Sep-11 12:46:35 UTC from web
    6. @ponydude2143 Technically what she's trying to do is automate enforcement of a rule.

Wednesday, 21-Sep-11 12:50:42 UTC from TTYtter
      1. @ceruleanspark @ponydude2143 No, technically she's trying to automate the enforcement of the rule, and then DROP the rule.

Wednesday, 21-Sep-11 12:51:47 UTC from web
        1. @thelastgherkin Technically I'm trying to automate the rule so SHE can drop it. So are other people. She isn't automating anything because she's very busy and it is a complete pain in the apples.

Wednesday, 21-Sep-11 12:54:11 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
    7. @ponydude2143 No, I mean with the whole grand scheme of the internet and that bullmangoes "Protect IP" act.

Wednesday, 21-Sep-11 12:51:40 UTC from web
    8. @ponydude2143 The censorship thing is in the context of sony. Things like them trying to erase the knowledge of how to jailbreak a PS3 from youtube, etc.

Wednesday, 21-Sep-11 12:53:17 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
    9. @ponydude2143 They're in favor of it, as are most companies.

Wednesday, 21-Sep-11 12:53:51 UTC from web
    10. @ponydude2143 Oh yes on the con, totally yes. Just no Cabal.

Wednesday, 21-Sep-11 12:55:52 UTC from web
    11. @ponydude2143 Because @cabal does whatever the mangoes he wants.

Wednesday, 21-Sep-11 13:01:56 UTC from web
    12. @ponydude2143 I am increasingly convinced that it's impossible to implement automatic opt-out filtering in a way that doesn't use a huge amount or resources. Doing it at timeline display time uses just as many resources as doing it at submit.
