@the20percent What's the smallest version of Ubuntu? Like which one can be set to physically take up the least amount of space on my hard drive?
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 02:20:04 UTC from web-
@macpony55 Idk, but I do know that Xubuntu uses XFCE, and uses fewer resources (ie. processor and RAM)... but then again, it doesn't save you much, its like 1% improvement... I'll have to look it up though
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 02:21:18 UTC from web-
@the20percent I'm trying to find one that is smaller then 4GB so I can store it on my Ipod and just transfer it back over whenever I need to watch the newest pony episode
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 02:22:39 UTC from web-
@macpony55 You could just get one and run it from a live CD or flash drive.
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 02:23:46 UTC from web-
@scribus can't run from flash drive, I'm using a school laptop and they've blocked changes to the BIOS and access streaming sites, I literally only need it for pony episodes but don't want to get caught so I need one I can move to and from a FAT32 system
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 02:25:46 UTC from web-
@macpony55 Ah, gotcha then. Unsure how to solve your particular problem, then. I'm pretty sure almost any given 'Buntu can be under 4 GB, though; I've installed to flash drives before, and I don't have any bigger than 4.
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 02:29:33 UTC from web-
@scribus I don't even have an option to install to a flashdrive even when I've got one that's 4GB plugged in
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 02:31:46 UTC from web-
@macpony55 Yeah, I had to boot from the CD, then tell it to install to sdb1 or whatever it was. I have no idea how to get it onto your iPod like you want; never tried, never had to. =/
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 02:33:06 UTC from web-
@scribus It's just the biggest storage option I have at the moment, but it's in FAT32
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 02:34:15 UTC from web-
@macpony55 what exactly are you planning to do, use it as a livedisk, or...?
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 02:35:30 UTC from web-
@the20percent Well right now I've got it installed on the laptop, for the sole purpose of viewing things on Youtube and watching streams when new episodes air, but as we saw with Peter, I need someway to quickly remove it but would prefer to not have to re install each time I want to use it
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 02:37:49 UTC from web-
@macpony55 what happened to peter?
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 02:39:21 UTC from web-
@the20percent Weren't you the one that relayed the info to me? He got his computer taken until May
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 02:40:01 UTC from web-
@macpony55 OOOOOHHHH! That peter, I thought you were talking about the peter that sits next to us in math
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 02:40:44 UTC from web-
@the20percent ah
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 02:42:01 UTC from web-
@macpony55 I see no way of doing this without allocating 20 gigs to a storage partition on your iPod
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 02:46:34 UTC from web-
@the20percent That won't work because then I will not be able to use it as an Ipod
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 02:48:15 UTC from web-
@macpony55 you said yourself, "It's a mobile hard drive that can play songs and movies." :P http://ur1.ca/6v91x
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 02:49:33 UTC from web-
@cupcakesrdelishus It is, but it has limits
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 02:50:08 UTC from web-
@macpony55 well treat it as derpy.... Forget the limits, and then there are none
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 02:50:53 UTC from web-
@cupcakesrdelishus that would be treating it like Pinkie Pie, as in... what physics?
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 02:52:01 UTC from web-
@the20percent indeed

@macpony55 yeah, I realized that... wubi's the only way you can use ubuntu successfully... and you can resize partitions on your iPod...
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 02:50:25 UTC from web-
@the20percent If you add partitions then it will mess up the Ipod and it won't be able to figure out which one the music is on
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 02:51:32 UTC from web-
@macpony55 welp.. I got nothing... because our Bioses are locked, you can't boot from a flashdrive or disk, so live disks are also out of the equation... only way we can run linux is with Wubi... I'll see what I can do with that...
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 02:54:41 UTC from web-
@the20percent um..... I can ask hunter and see what he says
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 02:55:37 UTC from web-
@the20percent Maybe if I could reduce the partition by removing some unnecessary files
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 02:56:03 UTC from web-
@macpony55 Oh, the problem is that you FILLED your harddrive... I thought the problem was the file system's limits and inability to hold files larger than 4 gigs... I'll see what I can do with that then... I'll see if its possible to move wubi virtual partitions then...
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 02:57:53 UTC from web-
@the20percent no no no, My system is not full, it is the file system limits
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 03:00:06 UTC from web-
@macpony55 oh... welp, still looking at what I can do
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 03:01:25 UTC from web-
@the20percent We're so limited with these darn computer
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 03:02:05 UTC from web-
@macpony55 I know... if only I could find the darn bios password, I can possibly improve the computers.... but NOOOOO! Tech triage trolls say no....
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 03:03:07 UTC from web-
@the20percent I did unlock my admin account on my laptop, too bad it has about the same access that we have :P they just love trolling us
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 03:04:07 UTC from web-
@macpony55 no no, that's windows admin account, I'm talking about the bios password... its beyond windows
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 03:05:28 UTC from web-
@the20percent I know what you're talking about, I was just saying I got into that Admin and it was useless
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 03:08:38 UTC from web -
@the20percent Open the case. Locate the CMOS battery. Remove it and leave it removed for about 10 minutes. Replace battery, reboot machine.
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 03:10:38 UTC from web-

@macpony55 oh... and btw: Which version, 32 bit or 64?
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 02:22:45 UTC from web-
@the20percent either, it's for our school computers
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 02:23:34 UTC from web-
@macpony55 then you might not find much luck with Ubuntu... its minimum requirements are like 4.4 gb hard drive space when you're installing... what happened to your flash drive? Just reformat it to NTFS, so you can store files larger than 4 gigs
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 02:25:17 UTC from web-
@the20percent It is lost in the void of my room
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 02:26:17 UTC from web-
@macpony55 Its lost eh? that's bad
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 02:27:57 UTC from web-

@macpony55 may have to research a better alternative to Ubuntu, it seems like most of its derivitives are roughly the same size
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 02:28:36 UTC from web-
@the20percent I shall do this
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 02:29:02 UTC from web-
@macpony55 I found some... you have a choice between Medibuntu, Crunchbang, or Mint... they all have codecs preinstalled, so I think you can use it as a livedisk
Thursday, 22-Dec-11 02:31:50 UTC from web-
@the20percent Can you link me to one?
