  1. Oh go on then, I'll post the quote itself here. "It is my suspicion that the term exists so dudes can feel better about liking a Girl Thing. They’re not My Little Pony fans! They’re BROnies! It’s a Man Thing, honest! Just suck it up and enjoy your quality cartoon about ponies. The label is unnecessary."

      1. @purplephish I'm not sure what saying that is intended to achieve.

        1. @thelastgherkin @pinhooves "BROnies" are unique to "friendship is magic" A "my little pony fan" could be a g3 fan

          1. @purplephish So?

Wednesday, 28-Dec-11 21:09:32 UTC from web
    2. @thelastgherkin The hell you say? I'm calling myself a My Little Pony fan instead of a brony because a lot of those bronies are scary!

Wednesday, 28-Dec-11 21:04:36 UTC from web
      1. @scribus @pinhooves In what way are they different? Like being serious, what would the difference be?

Wednesday, 28-Dec-11 21:07:19 UTC from web
        1. @macpony55 I've just found that a lot of self-proclaimed "bronies" are of the "Walk around town atonally shouting 'Winter Wrap Up' at any time of the year, what is bathing again?" sort. Really, probably not a majority of them, but the loud ones that Fox News reports on. I find it easier to say "I like MLP, and DGAF about what you think" than to say "I'm a brony, but not one of *those* bronies." Much like when I fell out of the local furry fandom. Now I just say I like cartoons and anthro art.

            1. @macpony55 Also, there are those who say it's discriminatory against females, and while I don't use that argument, I do understand and respect it.

              1. @scribus That's true, but if not pointed out I usually don't even think about it

      2. @scribus Agreed. Bronies does roll off the tongue better, though, and usually gets me out of having to carry around my soapbox.

        1. @eaglehooves I'm 6'4" and have been known to wear a leather biker jacket with chains (and not just on Halloween). Very few people question my decisions, and fewer still bother me when they do.

                1. @nerthos Yeah, it's like 1.93. Probably 2 meters even when I'm in boots.

                    1. @nerthos I have at times had one. I've also had a Jesus beard and an Abe Lincoln beard and a goatee and Wolverine muttonchops and a terrible 3rd-rate 1970s detective # . .

                      1. @scribus I'm growing a full beard right now xD the hardest part to grow are the sides.

          3. @scribus Nice. At 5'9", thin and with glasses I can't really pull that off.

Wednesday, 28-Dec-11 21:15:06 UTC from web
    3. @thelastgherkin I totally feel the same way about this statement. MLP fans and bronies are two different things.

Wednesday, 28-Dec-11 21:06:15 UTC from web
    4. @thelastgherkin What if I call myself a brony because it's easier than saying I'm a fan of My Little Pony Friendship is Magic and trying to explain it?

Wednesday, 28-Dec-11 21:07:10 UTC from web
      1. @flaxx Then you are lazy! j/k

Wednesday, 28-Dec-11 21:07:45 UTC from web

Wednesday, 28-Dec-11 21:08:10 UTC from web
      2. @flaxx If you say brony you have to explain what it mean AND how the term "brony" was derived from it

Wednesday, 28-Dec-11 21:08:11 UTC from web
        1. @macpony55 Not really, since most of the people I talk to on the internet already knows what it means.

Wednesday, 28-Dec-11 21:09:50 UTC from web
          1. @flaxx I talk more in person

              1. @flaxx I usually do too, but I like to get out whenever possible

Wednesday, 28-Dec-11 21:14:13 UTC from web
                1. @macpony55 Eh, I pretty much only meet people outside my family when I go to school. And they already know I like ponies, and I've converted most of them, so I don't really have to explain it to anyone.

Wednesday, 28-Dec-11 21:16:35 UTC from web
                  1. @flaxx I'm in about 3 schools a day and am usually always meeting new people, almost everyone I know already knows too though. I'm not at all quiet about it :D

                    1. @macpony55 Heh, I'm not really quiet about it either. I talk about it openly with friends in school, and have pony wallpapers on my laptop and everything. :3

                      1. @flaxx Same here, I had my math teacher walk up behind me a couple weeks and ask why there were ponies on my desktop. It was hilarious

                        3. @macpony55 Heh, that has happened for me too. Most of my teachers just laugh about it, though. :P

                          1. @flaxx I also accidentally sent my avatar in it's desktop size as a signature to my bio teacher in an email, I never heard back from her in that email

                            1. @macpony55 Somewhere in each of my final 3 MATLAB assignments there was a "Derpy Hooves was here" in a comment. Neither the TA or my partner said anything.

                            2. @macpony55 Haha, that's pretty hilarious. I don't think I've ever actually sent any pony stuff to my teachers. I mean, except for that Flash animation I made.

                  2. @flaxx I've made no effort to hide it and really don't give a buck, but no one at my school seems to notice. I rarely get a hard time, but they're also totally immune to being converted.

Wednesday, 28-Dec-11 21:20:04 UTC from web
                    1. @eaglehooves Well, glad you don't get attacked for it, at least. And I hope you manage to convert some people.

                      1. @flaxx It's actually kinda amusing. One of my roommate's friends is the only person who seems to see any of it, and he's not familiar with the phenomenon.

      3. @flaxx Implying the word 'brony' doesn't carry with it terrible stereotypes.

Wednesday, 28-Dec-11 21:08:42 UTC from web
        1. @thelastgherkin True. But if someone refuses to take the time to get to know me personally just because I said I was a brony, they're most likely not the kind of person I'd like to get to know anyway.
