  1. EQD is the disease killing My Little Pony. Discuss.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 08:47:26 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
    1. @ceruleanspark What do you mean by that?

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 08:48:19 UTC from MuSTArDroid
      1. @derpytails I feel like Season 2 has been met with a lot of, IMO unwarranted criticism because of the 24 hour hype-cycle EQD has created. There was not such a blizzard of meta-discussion around every single element of every single episode before. I also find that people who stay well clear of EQD have none of the "complaints" about new episodes that people who regularly follow it do.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 08:50:56 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
        1. @ceruleanspark Well, I barely hop on EQD anyway, I only hop on there to check out MLP real-world news and Plushies :)

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 08:58:56 UTC from MuSTArDroid
          1. @derpytails And do you enjoy the new episodes?

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 08:59:49 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
            1. @ceruleanspark Depends on which episodes you're referring to?

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 09:00:42 UTC from MuSTArDroid
              1. @derpytails Season 2 in general.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 09:02:30 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
                1. @ceruleanspark Oh, then yeah, I liked some of Season 2's eps (mainly The Secret of Excess)

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 09:04:01 UTC from MuSTArDroid
                  1. @derpytails Sweet and Elite is probably my favourite episode so far. I actually enjoyed all the others too, but reading the commentary on them (Especially Mare Do Well), you'd think they'd just switched out the broadcast for a video of a hasbro executive urinating on a crying Twilight Sparkle.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 09:07:13 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
                    1. @ceruleanspark I'm sorry, but I'm don't think of ponies that way (even though I STILL think the Pinkamena eye derp is one of my all-time pony scenes EVER!)

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 09:11:48 UTC from MuSTArDroid
                      1. @derpytails Wait, what? I was commenting on the ludicrously negative reactions people are having.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 09:13:12 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
                        1. @ceruleanspark Oh, nevermind then, I'm still love the Pinkie eye derp scene xD

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 09:15:26 UTC from MuSTArDroid
        2. @ceruleanspark I'm going to actually have to disagree with you about EQD. I follow them regularly, yet my complaints about S2 are few and far between. Sure, some people criticize every little detail, but the question is; would they still be doing it if EQD weren't there?

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 09:35:56 UTC from web
          1. @lifegospel I think they probably wouldn't. A lot of the complainers seem to be people who watched S1 after it was done airing, and therefore, outside of the new-release hype-cycle, so had time to form their own view, rather than getting caught up in the EQD driven groupthink that has arisen with the new episodes.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 09:38:35 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
            1. @ceruleanspark I'm pretty sure the group you're talking about just happens to be a minority. Albeit, a very, VERY vocal minority, but a minority nonetheless. Most of the community that I know and interact with regularly tends to take the episodes as they are, a simple TV show. EQD or no.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 09:41:24 UTC from web
              1. @lifegospel I disagree that it is a minority, but then I have a largely (based on my own experiences with it) negative view of this community and the people in it, so perhaps I am biased in that regard.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 09:48:22 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
                1. @ceruleanspark Ugh, I know what you mean. Some of the things this fandom does makes me ashamed to be a part of the community at times. (Now, for all of you reading this, don't get me wrong, I love this fandom, I just feel that there are some of us who aren't in the spirit of being a brony. Those people tend to give us a bad name.)

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 09:51:29 UTC from web
                  1. @lifegospel I refuse to use the word Brony to describe myself anymore because it has, in my mind, come to represent a completely different, almost wholly negative thing.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 09:57:41 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
                    1. @ceruleanspark Precisely. I'm still a fan of the show, and I enjoy most of what the community creates, I just absolutely refuse to call myself a brony.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 09:58:31 UTC from web
    2. @ceruleanspark Nice bait.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 08:48:37 UTC from web
      1. @blackelectric @ponydude2143 Not every comment you disagree with is necessarily flamebait. As you can see, I was actually going somewhere with it, rather than being generally antagonistic.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 08:59:54 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
    3. @ponydude2143 It's the same thing that keeps people who read gaming media from actually enjoying videogames, and props up the notion that modern games are intrinsically worse than the ones you played as a kid. They're not, it's just new games are hyped as balls thanks to the internet.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 09:02:19 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
    4. @ponydude2143 I dunno, I think the (at this stage clearly not really) "leaked" stuff EQD is more or less constantly broadcasting is helping set unmeetable expectations.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 09:42:30 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
    5. @thatonepony It doesn't really matter WHAT they are, but I'm talking about the ones that feel like they OWN the fandom. For example, look at what the Pony Archive guys did. That's exactly the kind of behavior that gives the media more ammo against us. If we're going to prove to mundanes that we're not freakish pedophiles (Which I know we're not, but people have accused us) then we have GOT to stop pulling stunts like that.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 09:57:41 UTC from web
      1. @lifegospel Mundane. I haven't heard that word used that way in a very long time.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 09:58:45 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
        1. @ceruleanspark Ehh, I'm used to using it to differentiate between actors/non-actors. I hear it almost daily, hehe.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 09:59:26 UTC from web
          1. @lifegospel Last time I heard it, it was the in-vogue way for furries to refer to the non-furry populace. Back when newsgroups were relevant and Zines were still a thing.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 10:00:47 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
            1. @ceruleanspark Ehh, Bronies, Furries, we're both treated basically the same, so what's the difference?

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 10:02:05 UTC from web
              1. @lifegospel The difference is that bronies marginalized themselves with their behaviour with a clear view of what would happen. Furries did it by accident.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 10:02:56 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
                1. @ceruleanspark I meant in the fact that both groups are basically universally looked down upon, but you have a point.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 10:03:42 UTC from web
                  1. @lifegospel It's a shame that there are those who can't accept others with who they are. That's why not many know I'm brony/furry.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 10:05:52 UTC from web
                    1. @pinhooves It's quite sad, indeed. Especially when people go out of their way to insult the group in question. (Although, on a side note, I totally accept furries and in no way hate them. So at least SOME people don't loathe the furries.)

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 10:08:49 UTC from web
                      1. @lifegospel I'm glad to hear that, thanks. :3

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 10:10:25 UTC from web
                        1. @pinhooves You, my friend, are quite welcome.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 10:11:10 UTC from web
                          1. @lifegospel I too, am glad to hear that not everyone reflexively hates furries.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 10:12:57 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
                            1. @ceruleanspark Of course not. I don't see anything wrong with enjoying anthropomorphic animals. Whether it be for the art aesthetic, or the more... sexual aspects. We're all fans of different things. What you like is cool, what I like is also cool. Let's just shut up about which is "Ghey" or "Perverted" and get along for once.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 10:16:41 UTC from web
    6. @thatonepony Nah, we're worse than that. The media already has such a poor view of us in general. Hell, I've had people hurl insults of all kinds at the community. I just don't think we should keep reinforcing that negative image.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 10:01:23 UTC from web
    7. @thatonepony exactly my point. I mean, there's obviously a small percentage of us who actually ARE pedophiles, but that could apply to any fandom out there. I just feel that it's unfair when the media sees ONLY that small demographic and applies that label to the community as a whole.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 10:06:58 UTC from web
    8. @thatonepony Have you seen the video of those people singing Winter Wrap Up in the street and then harassing pizza restaurant employees into drawin ponies on the boxes? Facepalm X ∞ combo

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 10:06:59 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
    9. @thatonepony Yes. Next question

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 10:08:49 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
    10. @thatonepony Precisely! It's a lot like the situation with the LGBT+ community. I've had people accuse me of trying to turn them/their children gay. It

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 10:10:10 UTC from web
    11. @thatonepony I was too busy facepalming my way through my visual cortex for any sort of rational thought at that stage.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 10:10:32 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
    12. @thatonepony Precisely! It's a lot like the situation with the LGBT+ community. I've had people accuse me of trying to turn them/their children gay. It's just plain stereotyping.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 10:10:54 UTC from web
      1. @lifegospel I think it's says a lot about certain people. "If I don't hate gays, I might turn into one!" Uh..for most of us, it doesn't work that way.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 10:18:34 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
        1. @ceruleanspark So true. Apparently I'm trying to force my entire family into gay marriage, the way my mum goes on about it.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 10:20:20 UTC from web
          1. @lifegospel For some people, apparently the only thing between them and going full rainbow is clothes.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 10:21:14 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
            1. @ceruleanspark haha. Best. Quote. Ever. In all honesty, though, you're right. People seem to think being gay is contagious. (And people wonder why I have no faith in humanity)

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 10:23:07 UTC from web
              1. @lifegospel I CAUGHT TEH GAY.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 10:25:16 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
              2. @lifegospel I honestly don't understand what is with this world. :l

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 10:26:59 UTC from web
                1. @pinhooves I honestly wish I knew, because then maybe I could help to make it better. Even just a little bit.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 10:28:04 UTC from web
                  1. @lifegospel You can make it better, just by treating people well. That's what I've always believed.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 10:29:56 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
                    1. @ceruleanspark I know, but I try and I try and it doesn't seem to get much better. (Yeah, yeah, I'm a cynic and a sappy romantic at heart. bite me.)

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 10:30:56 UTC from web
                      1. @lifegospel How can you be a cynic AND a sappy romantic?

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 10:33:43 UTC from web
                        1. @thelastgherkin I'm not quite sure. That's why I added in that "bite me" for good measure.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 10:34:18 UTC from web
                          1. @lifegospel Such an act would be uncomfortable for both of us!

                            1. @thelastgherkin Most likely. Although there was this one thing my old boyfriend used to do with his mouth....

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 10:36:20 UTC from web
                              1. @lifegospel Please, continue. In detail. Gherkin will love it.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 10:37:18 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
                                1. @ceruleanspark I was making a joke. My ex did no such thing with his mouth, or any other orifice.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 10:37:51 UTC from web
                                  1. @lifegospel I too, was joking. Gherkin would probably wind up in the fetal position.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 10:38:40 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
                                    1. @ceruleanspark Undoubtedly so.

                              2. @lifegospel Stop right there.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 10:37:34 UTC from web
                      2. @lifegospel There's a phrase from 1984 that springs to mind, but I can only paraphrase. "Just because you can't win, doesn't mean that trying is hopeless". There is also the "Last Inch" speech from V for Vendetta, which I feel has some relevance here.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 10:35:16 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
    13. @thatonepony Not at all. Stereotypes pretty much drive how we see other people; first impression or not.

Tuesday, 10-Jan-12 10:13:38 UTC from web
    14. @thatonepony Yes, but part of being a good person is looking beyond that initial stereotyping to the person beneath.
