  1. Kerbal Space Program is a fascinating game/sim. Build rockets, attempt to fly them. Typically watch them explode in various spectacular fashions. It's pretty satisfying to build something that actually works though

    1. @ceruleanspark And the little guys in the corner freaking out. (Or at least the one on the right)

      1. @pinhooves Typically mine just show static and the letters KIA after about 5 seconds

        1. @ceruleanspark That means you're winning.

          1. @pinhooves I wanna get my little guys to the moon. However, I seem to have reached the limit of my "Stack of liquid fuel tanks with boosters on the bottom" design.

            1. @ceruleanspark Maybe do some Youtube searching. I wonder if you can actually orbit into the sun.

              1. @pinhooves I downloaded a pack with some more parts in it that would let me do a 4-booster design without resorting to radial decouplers, as well as providing some more varied engines and fuel tanks. It also comes with payloads so you can try launching your own sattelites and the like. There's also a pack with a lunar lander in it I want to try.

                1. @ceruleanspark If the makers knew anything about My Little Pony, what would you think the odds Luna would be on the moon?

Thursday, 12-Jan-12 07:46:22 UTC from web
                  1. @pinhooves It's entirely possible for someone to make a Luna model to use as a payload, so you could take her there and abandon her, just like her sister.

                    1. @ceruleanspark Just thinking about it makes me feel bad.

                2. @ceruleanspark And how many billions of dollars of taxpayer money are you blowing up on the launchpad?

                  1. @tenmihara I don't know but it's pretty funny to watch 18 tanks full of rocket fuel explode because I put a booster in the wrong place and it ignited them

Thursday, 12-Jan-12 07:48:06 UTC from web
                    1. @ceruleanspark Undoubtedly.

        2. @ceruleanspark Sometimes before! Like that time the entire assembly promptly fell over and exploded

Thursday, 12-Jan-12 07:41:20 UTC from web
          1. @ceruleanspark Did it exploded again after that?

Thursday, 12-Jan-12 07:43:50 UTC from web
            1. @tenmihara No, this design will orbit at 300K meters quite happily. Sometimes, it will even allow the astronauts to return to earth. Occasionally, alive.

              1. @ceruleanspark No offense, but I am so glad IRL NASA is better at fancy mathematics than you are.

                1. @scribus I'm more like the Russian space program. Or Von Braun. Just strap more engines to it. We can always make more astronauts later.

                  1. @ceruleanspark #! (I have no idea how to type that Tim Taylor laugh/grunt)

                    1. @scribus I was thinking of a design with 12 solid fuel engines arranged in two 6-engine-rings grafted to the side of my liquid fuel stages. This sounds like a good plan that probably won't make anything explode violently

Thursday, 12-Jan-12 07:52:58 UTC from web
                      1. @ceruleanspark I don't speak enough rocket-engine to know if this is actually a good idea or not, but it certainly sounds like it will make a lot of fire no matter what happens.

Thursday, 12-Jan-12 07:59:54 UTC from MuSTArDroid
                      2. @ceruleanspark So long as you can get them all to fire at the same time, you should be ok, otherwise you'll have a glorious mess on your hooves.

                        1. @colfax Staging them shouldn't be an issue. I just sometimes forget to...bolt them to the rest of the rocket. Then, when I mash go, I end up with 3 SRB's launching themselves independantly of the rest of it, which proceeds to cartwheel hilariously into the ground/launch tower/ocean
