Kerbal Space Program is a fascinating game/sim. Build rockets, attempt to fly them. Typically watch them explode in various spectacular fashions. It's pretty satisfying to build something that actually works though

@pinhooves I downloaded a pack with some more parts in it that would let me do a 4-booster design without resorting to radial decouplers, as well as providing some more varied engines and fuel tanks. It also comes with payloads so you can try launching your own sattelites and the like. There's also a pack with a lunar lander in it I want to try.

@pinhooves It's entirely possible for someone to make a Luna model to use as a payload, so you could take her there and abandon her, just like her sister.

@tenmihara I don't know but it's pretty funny to watch 18 tanks full of rocket fuel explode because I put a booster in the wrong place and it ignited them

@tenmihara No, this design will orbit at 300K meters quite happily. Sometimes, it will even allow the astronauts to return to earth. Occasionally, alive.

@scribus I was thinking of a design with 12 solid fuel engines arranged in two 6-engine-rings grafted to the side of my liquid fuel stages. This sounds like a good plan that probably won't make anything explode violently

@ceruleanspark I don't speak enough rocket-engine to know if this is actually a good idea or not, but it certainly sounds like it will make a lot of fire no matter what happens.

@ceruleanspark So long as you can get them all to fire at the same time, you should be ok, otherwise you'll have a glorious mess on your hooves.

@colfax Staging them shouldn't be an issue. I just sometimes forget to...bolt them to the rest of the rocket. Then, when I mash go, I end up with 3 SRB's launching themselves independantly of the rest of it, which proceeds to cartwheel hilariously into the ground/launch tower/ocean
