@purplephish20 yeah, good for you that's cool :) the brony community in general eased the void i had when I left the furry community, nothing against em tho. And now i don't need ponies so much, but they're nice to have around and to know I enjoy new vids and eps.

@starlightbolt To be accurate, if they're doing that, and it is working then they don't actually HAVE depression. The show cannot alter your fundamental brain chemistry in a consistent and meaningful enough fashion to "cure" depression the way people keep implying it does.

@deadmachine The "reason" for depression is that your brain chemistry is off balance. The higher level functions that cause it to go off balance in the first place are largely immaterial.

@ceruleanspark yes but there are so many other factors, like outlook, and self esteem etc.. when you need a fix in life, you can get it from just about any source, the source isn't special though. Mine was a book on shamanism. It gave me fresh perspectives, but it wasn't shamanism, it was just the first thing i found. So i do believe if peopel are in that need , and they find ponies do the trick in opening thier mind, and helpign them re-establish some perspective and positive thoughts, that can help them influence thier own chemistry. You don't always need meds to change the chems, sometimes just an understanding of how it all works will do.

@ceruleanspark it's all indirect, the brony community inspired me to be more creative (not just with pony stuff, with all sorts) which made me feel better. Learning to even mildly draw and use my head was a great boost, I hadn't done a thing since leaving school, and I had no pleasure in "art" while at school. "tonight you must draw a tin of Heinz baked beanz as a "still life sketch" etc.... I hate it

@purplephish20 neat, yeah MLP inspired me to put together a dozen or so videos, i think 5 or so made it onto EQdaily, only popular one is the 'every episode at once' one haha.. it really does lighten my day to see what new silly comments come in, and i love it when i get into a fun editing project.

@thelastgherkin @deadmachine @purplephish20 @starlightbolt hmm.. I haven't been depressed lately, but ponies have helped reduce my anxiety. I doubt it will be enough once midterms and project start to be due, but stress (including depression) is a part of life everyone deals with, some constantly. We can't realistically expect ponies or any other non-career hobby/entertainment to put food on our tables and a roof over our heads, but things like MLP /can/ make everything more tolerable as an escape. It happens that MLP:FiM is one of the best escapes I've found to date, in part because of the community. Overall I find the company here reassuring and comforting. The fan base isn't perfect, but I'm happy to take the good with the bad.
