@cabal simple.... we need a new layout with a really nice spot for some quality ad space, people would be interested in advertising, theres enough users here
Monday, 05-Mar-12 17:46:55 UTC from web-
@purplephish20 But then there's AdBlock, and as much as I like this site, I'm not disabling that for _anything_.

@redenchilada I'd honestly whitelist this site if they ever put adsense on it. There's a problem though with something like that. Refresh fetches the entire page, ads included. Google may find that suspicious and not pay out cause of RDNRefresh..

@minti I never thought this site would be refreshed a lot but it makes sense. I just keep clicking on Rainbow Dash above instead of hitting the reload button. Main reason is that between RD and reload buttons, one of them looks more like Rd.

@crusader8 It's more referring to the RDN Refresh scripts.

@redenchilada O. ok.
Monday, 05-Mar-12 17:52:19 UTC from web -
@redenchilada More specifically just RDN Refresh, mine doesn't do that >:D XD

@purplephish20 I think you might be the only user here not running adblock plus. But don't worry, things are (mostly) in hand.

@ceruleanspark no.. i dont have anything like that, the only add ons im running are AVG, greasemonkey (rdnrefresh), and the daily mail kitten block
Monday, 05-Mar-12 17:50:15 UTC from web-
@purplephish20 I'd suggest getting AdBlock Plus installed. It makes everything look so much nicer.
Monday, 05-Mar-12 17:50:53 UTC from web-
@redenchilada Everything nicer, except those sites that have those images under ads that try and guilt trip you into disabling adblock. xD
Monday, 05-Mar-12 17:51:54 UTC from web-
@minti >block image >move on with life
Monday, 05-Mar-12 17:52:46 UTC from web-
@redenchilada Usually it's a background to a DIV. Kind of hard to block those. xD
Monday, 05-Mar-12 17:53:13 UTC from web-
@minti You could always do what I do and ignore them. I've only seen one site do that, actually; a Sonic fansite. I stopped going there.

@redenchilada @purplephish20 It also improves security, since many ads contain malicious content (not all of which are scripts, so noscript alone will not protect you from these).

@toksyuryel link me up!
Monday, 05-Mar-12 17:53:23 UTC from web-
@purplephish20 https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/adblock-plus/ and https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/noscript/ Installing these two extensions will greatly enhance the security of your web browsing experience, provided you use them correctly.
Monday, 05-Mar-12 17:56:44 UTC from web-
@toksyuryel and performance too somewhat right? :3
Monday, 05-Mar-12 17:57:21 UTC from web-
@cavatina Yes, the improvement there can be quite significant depending on the website. Most noticeable widespread improvement is when blocking everything from google analytics.
Monday, 05-Mar-12 17:59:31 UTC from web-
@toksyuryel hehe, i might use it to disable a couple of parts of G+ that i dont actually use, like the notifications (i use an extension, so why have two scripts running?)
Monday, 05-Mar-12 18:01:43 UTC from web-
@cavatina I think you'd need a surrogate for that...
Monday, 05-Mar-12 18:03:11 UTC from web-
@toksyuryel ....hmm?
Monday, 05-Mar-12 18:04:08 UTC from web-
@cavatina noscript functions on a domain-by-domain basis, it can't disable individual scripts from the same domain. It can however replace those scripts with its own via script surrogates. These scripts have to be written first though, of course.

Monday, 05-Mar-12 18:01:48 UTC from web-
@purplephish20 Remember that good security always comes with a trade-off, usually requiring you to pay much more attention to what you are doing.
Monday, 05-Mar-12 18:04:18 UTC from web-
@toksyuryel ok then, what should i particularly take note of?
Monday, 05-Mar-12 18:05:08 UTC from web-
@purplephish20 Spend some time reading the documentation, it should cover everything.

Monday, 05-Mar-12 18:00:27 UTC from web-
@purplephish20 enable scripts for this site~
Monday, 05-Mar-12 18:02:09 UTC from web -
@purplephish20 These are not "set it and forget it" addons, you have to configure and manage them carefully. That's why I included the qualifier "provided you use them correctly". Spend some time reading the documentation and going through what all the various options do. Also with noscript, you can middle click on a site in its drop down to see some information about that site to help you determine if you should allow scripts from it.
