  1. I've gone though at least 6 OSs in the past 24 hours just trying to get a setup that works, does anypony else think that seems like a bit much?

    1. @macpony55 Not really, I've reached 8 on one day. They were all Virtual Machines though.

      1. @omni Mine aren't virtual

    2. @macpony55 What the heck are you even doing?

Saturday, 17-Mar-12 18:19:58 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
      1. @pengawill Trying to make efficient use of space and also tying to get something that will work on an interchangeable HDD for my school laptop since it has better specs than my personal one

        1. @macpony55 What all have you tried?

Saturday, 17-Mar-12 18:22:28 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
          1. @pengawill Well I'm trying to just stick with Windows 7 or Ubuntu since those are what I have the installation files for but the problem is the BIOS is locked on my school computer so I'm trying to use boot files from one version of Windows to launch another

Saturday, 17-Mar-12 18:23:59 UTC from web
            1. @macpony55 Well, you can boot Ubuntu from Windows.

Saturday, 17-Mar-12 18:27:01 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
              1. @pengawill But it's Windows that I can't install, What I'm having to do is since the BIOS is locked on one computer I'm having to move the Hard drive into my other one and install from there then move it back and see if it boots, I have not had any luck so far, most likely due to the fact that the one I'm installing on is 32-bit and the other is 64-bit

                1. @macpony55 Oh, alright. Complicated. Sorry I cant help man.

                  1. @pengawill I may just have to forget Windows and just stick with ubuntu for it

                    1. @macpony55 Oh. Darn. How crushing. No, seriously though, that's a bummer... Wish I could help, but everything I thought you'd already mentioned trying.

                      1. @scribus Tis quite annoying to set up, my school sure has done a good job of keeping the computers locked to their software, but i'll get it

Saturday, 17-Mar-12 18:49:14 UTC from web
                        1. @macpony55 Is the locked BIOS perhaps interfering with which bootloader can be used? Or did you already dismiss that?

Saturday, 17-Mar-12 18:49:55 UTC from web
                          1. @scribus I've already tried by copying the bootloader already running on the computer to another hardrive, I believe the problem lies in the installations having to be on a 32-bit system and the computer being 64-bit. It works with the school hardrive in my laptop since 64-bit can be reduced to 32 but it doesn't work vice-versa

Saturday, 17-Mar-12 18:53:35 UTC from web
                              1. @silverbrony get a clean version of Windows installed on a 32-bit system running on a 64-bit system, which based off of what I've seen looks to be an impossible task

Saturday, 17-Mar-12 18:54:51 UTC from web
                            2. @macpony55 Huh. If you're installing 32-bit OSs then the installing computer being 64 shouldn't cause any issues, AFAIK...

Saturday, 17-Mar-12 18:54:21 UTC from web
                              1. @scribus Well that's the only think that makes sense given what I've seen, no idea if that's the actual problem but whatever the problem may be it is preventing me from doing what I want

                                2. @macpony55 Best thing I've found to do when I'm stumped is go do something else. I've honestly solved problems in my dreams before, which was pretty cool except when I woke up the problem was still there (I just knew what to do).

Saturday, 17-Mar-12 18:57:01 UTC from web
                                  1. @scribus I've had that happen before, the only problem here is half of the files that could contain the cause for this not working are hidden from my view and inaccessible, I'm doing all this with restricted permissions on the 64-bit laptop

Saturday, 17-Mar-12 18:58:32 UTC from web

        1. @macpony55 Windows 7 + The 4 official Ubuntu "distributions" = 5, something is wrong here.

Saturday, 17-Mar-12 18:23:58 UTC from Choqok
          1. @omni I've been repeating, the problem is they aren't a;ways installing correctly so I have to start all over again, I'm using only one version of Ubuntu and don't ask which one exactly because I have no idea xD

            1. @macpony55 If you have no idea I suppose you're running the default version :P

    4. @macpony55 Reading OS as "operating system" is confusing me. x.x What do you mean by "OS"?

Saturday, 17-Mar-12 18:21:24 UTC from web
      1. @silverbrony Windows, Linux, Mac, those are all OSs or "Operating Systems" and are what handle all the functions of your computer
