Anyway, because this laptop doesn't have microsoft office on it as standard... my grandad has given me a copy of microsoft office 2000.... i know, 12 years out of date but is it worth installing? surely its better than nothing? My grandad did a 4 year course in IT so he at least knows a bit of what he's talking about

@purplephish20 You do not need a new version. Office 2000 or XP is more than enough.
-
@purplephish20 Imagine it'll type just as well. Could try Libre or Open Office, they'd be up to date. Unless you *need* it to be MS for something. I dunno. Beats nothing?
-
@purplephish20 Ehhh, from what I know its good enough to work for a good anybody. About the same as 2007
-
@purplephish20 It should work. Could also use LibreOffice instead, looks the same but should have a bit of newer version and support of opening .docx files and so instead of only .doc files. It's free as well so I would say it's at least worth a try. Guess it's up to you.
-
@omni *some newer features (grammar, where have you gone?)
-
@purplephish20 I'd say no. Backward comparability could be ugly. No .docx or anything.
-
@greatandpowerfuleaglehooves ohhhhhh a first negative comment regarding it.... now I have an actual decision to make....
-
@purplephish20 @greatandpowerfuleaglehooves Office 97 is best Office.
-
@purplephish20 I wouldn't touch Word 2000 with a 12ft pole. But that's just me.
RDN's Lucifer likes this. -
@purplephish20 You can always uninstall it if it doesn't work out, so it's worth a shot. I just like having somewhat current software.
-
@minti ohhh youre making this difficult!
-
@purplephish20 I guess it would pretty much depend on if you would need support for docx and so or not. Then again, I don't think Microsoft supports Office 2000 anymore so you're probably not getting security updates anymore in which case LibreOffice would be a better choice in the first place.

@nerthos My parents are to cheap to buy software, so they still have Publisher '97. I'm about ready to pirate them better just to make it stop.
-
@greatandpowerfuleaglehooves I was serious about office 97 xD
-
@scribus @conventrix @littlepip98 @omni @nerthos @minti @greatandpowerfuleaglehooves So many responses, thank you... im thinking.... Install it... then delete it if i hate it! Makes sense!
