      1. @techdisk42 I've only got mine because my university's download policy is insanely generous.

        1. @greatandpowerfuleaglehooves mine came pre loaded. How's THAT for legit free?

          1. @techdisk42 That's not bad. I'm not a fan of Sony laptops though. I've seen to many of their netbooks go belly up.

            1. @greatandpowerfuleaglehooves mine no netbook, I love it! Compared to my old laptop, the Sony one is amazing.

              1. @techdisk42 I assumed. I've just got a bad taste having to service too many of their low end ones. The Asia-pacific base models are the lowest common denominator of laptops.

                1. @greatandpowerfuleaglehooves well, I did pay $1 500 for mine, so that might have something to do with how much I like it. :)

                  1. @techdisk42 If I paid that kind of money for something, I'd like it no matter how much it sucked.

                    1. @scribus true that! Though I actually do like my laptop :)

                  2. @techdisk42 I've got a Dell that retails somewhere near that price. I couldn't be happier with it.

                    1. @greatandpowerfuleaglehooves yeah, I've been using dells for a long while, it's only recently I broke out of it and got something diffrent. My first laptop was a lower end Gateway for around $700. I liked It in terms of hardware; it was fast and all (no GPU though, so no gaming) but physically it was the least durable laptop I have ever used. Started seeing cracks in the casing within 2 months, and within a year the screen was being all weird and flashy, and only 1 of the 4 USB ports work. No trouble with the Sony yet!

                      1. @techdisk42 I managed to score a Latitude. It's a little pricy for the specs looking at what's on the shelf at the store, but the support is phenomenal. It dies for any reason within 3 years, and they fix it. Even if it was my fault.

                          1. @techdisk42 Good warranties and easy service seem to be the selling points of the professional lines. Lenovo has a good professional line too.

                    1. @nerthos it has a dedicated Radeon GPU in it, (dunno the actual chip, but it plays skyrim at high), 640 GB HDD, 4gbs RAM (I upped it to 6 using one of my old laptop's 2GB sticks) and 1600x900 13.3" screen. All in a beautiful 3.5 pound case.

                      1. @techdisk42 For a laptop, it's pretty good. Fun fact on my computer Dragon Age Origins asks more of my CPU and GPU than Skyrim, both at maximum.

                                  1. @commodorecrazycommanderofthe1stroyalbrigadeofspiceracksandcheese Same happened to me with my desktop until I replaced it last year. My netbook is only to browse internet, listen to music and read books, though.

                        2. @nerthos the only gripe I have with my laptop is that it needs a special driver for the GPU, and the one Sony provided is out of date and crashes when I play minecraft. Luckily it has a special switch that flips on and off the dedicated GPU to save power, and the integrated graphics works with minecraft.

                2. @greatandpowerfuleaglehooves the thing about having to service them is that you never seen the ones that don't break cause, well, they don't break.

                  1. @techdisk42 They still get viruses, and when you install Windows from an image, being able to get to the HDD is nice. (Low end HPs and some low end Dells have a similar issue.)
