@yodelerty In short, it's a residual effect of the pony Twilight Sparkle's magic. The mere fact that the vampires' book series is called "Twilight" caused them to retroactively sparkle due to the epic awesomeness that is #Twilight_Sparkle . Not only is Twilight responsible for vampires sparkling, she is also the name's sake of the time of day known as twilight.. Again this is retroactive so it doesn't matter that the show was made well after the appearance of the word 'twilight'..
