  1. I'm very tempted to just give up and tell my teacher on Monday that I didn't understand the assignment. Because this is ridiculous.

    1. @flaxx Try your best and if your teacher doesn't accept it, THEN you can say the assignment was vague and unhelpful.

      1. @yodelerty It's kind of difficult to try my best when I'm not even sure what they want me to do. I mean, exactly /what/ do they even want me to say about the texts or pictures I choose? I just can't figure it out.

        1. @flaxx Can you email your teacher for clarification?

          1. @yodelerty Don't think I have his email, and I doubt he'd be of much help anyway.

            1. @flaxx Well, giving up isn't a good idea. Especially given that he may not grant an extension just because you didn't understand the assignment. Some teachers are just like that. :/

              1. @yodelerty Some? More like most, if not all. xD

                1. @minti I've had teachers that were willing to. If only because I managed to convince them they were at fault.

                  1. @yodelerty I guess all my teachers were just jerks then, or something. xD

                    1. @minti Possibly. Most of my teachers were actually nice. I only really disliked a few of them.

              2. @yodelerty True. I'll throw something together. But it's so hard when I'm not even sure what they want me to say. The instructions are pretty much "choose two texts or pictures and explain what you think they mean and motivate your choices, and also it should be relevant to trends, progress and change". I don't even know what the damn point of the presentation is.

                1. @flaxx If it's "what you think they mean" you pretty much can't go wrong because it's all opinion. However you think they relate to trends, progress, and change, it's probably true. Why two, though? That just sounds like two separate speeches.

                  1. @yodelerty I /think/ (emphasis on the 'think' because I don't know anything about this crap) I'm supposed to... compare them to each other... or something?

                    1. @flaxx If it doesn't say you have to compare them, I wouldn't. But that's coming from someone who constantly misunderstands assignments, so don't read too much into it. :/

                      1. @yodelerty I believe they're supposed to be relevant to each other in some way, but I really don't know. And I mean, let's say I pick this text about a fat girl who likes being fat and wants people to stop pestering her about her weight. The meaning with it, and the reason she wrote it, is pretty obvious. She wants to inform people that everyone doesn't want to be thin, and that she's happy the way she is. I guess this could be relevant to trends because of ideals of beauty and whatnot, but how do I connect those in practice? I can't just say "She's fat and she likes it and this is relevant because nowadays girls should be slim.", right? What kind of speech would that be? There wouldn't be any point to it because it's obvious. So what should I say about it? Do I have to know a lot about things in this booklet so I can seem smart by having interesting opinions? ARE THEY FORCING ME TO BE INTERESTING? Alright, I'm sorry for the rant, but I'm getting so mangoesed about this. Also no room left

                        1. @flaxx The trick I always saw people use for speeches was to kind of turn it into a story of sorts. As in, build into the main subject by starting out relatively vague and getting gradually more specific to the subject you're speaking about. It's basically just a way to extend the speech, but it also makes it seem more interesting and creates the illusion that it has more content than it actually does. As for the actual content, I can't help you there. I imagine this whole paragraph wasn't much help either but I thought I'd try to help the best I could. Also, this is really for people who are good at speeches so I don't even know why I bothered. Sorry.

                          1. @yodelerty We got to watch videos of some people doing this thing (with another theme) from last year, and they both talked about personal experiences and such. So I dunno, maybe they expect us all to have some perfect story about this, which I really don't have, so perhaps I'm doomed to fail. But don't worry about it, thank you for trying to help. It's more than I can ask for, really. #

                            1. @flaxx You can't expect to succeed without an attitude that suggests you will. Just try your best and I'm sure you'll do just fine on this. :3 #

                              1. @yodelerty See, being positive about things like this is exactly the thing I'm not capable of. I'll get through it, but it sure as hay won't be with a smile on my face.

                                  1. @yodelerty Yeah, thank. Been good just ranting on and on about it for a while. Think I give up for today, though. Just read what I had written, and I'm pretty sure this is not at all what I'm supposed to write. Oh well, I'll try again tomorrow, I guess.
