          1. @nerthos That's a funny way of spelling 7zip.

        3. @dezzierose Vista doesn't?! *sigh*

Tuesday, 17-Apr-12 00:53:21 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
        4. @dezzierose What? It should open them just fine, that's been a built in thing since XP.

Tuesday, 17-Apr-12 00:53:34 UTC from IdentiCurse
    3. @dezzierose Magic and shiz. Also editing GIFs, I think @widget has a guide somewhere. Dunno if he's on right now to post the link, though.

Tuesday, 17-Apr-12 00:46:50 UTC from IdentiCurse
    4. @dezzierose Oop, never mind, that link @nerthos just posted is the one I was talking about. :D

      2. @minti how do I even.. I was just gonna make one of my other Oc, she'd look like season 1 Luna without wings. And I was gonna make a second one for Sparky and a third for Summer for some odd reason

Tuesday, 17-Apr-12 00:49:18 UTC from web
    6. @widget Sounds like *someone* likes the "Free as in speech" part of free software...

      1. @scribus New Cabal? New Cabal.

Tuesday, 17-Apr-12 01:01:40 UTC from web
        1. @nerthos Ain't nothing wrong with a little liberty, says I.

Tuesday, 17-Apr-12 01:03:00 UTC from web
          1. @scribus Yeah, but there's a difference between a little liberty and ranting about it xD

Tuesday, 17-Apr-12 01:04:59 UTC from web
    7. @widget I never save to them, but I receive a lot of stuff in them that I'm not willing to toss out. I'd say to try 7zip instead, though.

Tuesday, 17-Apr-12 01:00:06 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
    8. @widget I don't CARE about open exchange or patented technology. It works, and that's enough for me. I'm a pirate. If they try to charge me for something, I find a way around it. That's enough for me. I use it since... year 2000? and it never failed me.

Tuesday, 17-Apr-12 01:00:40 UTC from web
    9. @widget That means you still need something that handles .rar.

Tuesday, 17-Apr-12 01:02:05 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
      1. @eaglehooves 7z handles RAR achives. :p

Tuesday, 17-Apr-12 01:03:03 UTC from web
        1. @minti Thats what I use. I thought the issue was with the file type, ranting against RAR in general?

Tuesday, 17-Apr-12 01:04:08 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
          1. @eaglehooves Nah, it's more of a "Don't make RAR's yourself" rant.

Tuesday, 17-Apr-12 01:04:33 UTC from web
    10. @widget But could you give me a REAL reason not to use it? I barely compress files, I just extract them. With coders it's always the same. "That's bad and evil, don't use it" "Why?" "Don't". I'm not going to change my ways without reason.

Tuesday, 17-Apr-12 01:04:38 UTC from web
    11. @widget I don't. The original thing this started from was trying to open someone else's.

Tuesday, 17-Apr-12 01:06:10 UTC from StatusNet iPhone
    12. @widget Such as LZMA, in the form of either .xz, or .7z (slightly different containers, same compression algorithm)?

Tuesday, 17-Apr-12 01:07:52 UTC from IdentiCurse
    13. @widget Excellent. I love me some LZMA (mostly as .tar.xz, but I imagine that's probably less palatable outside of the *n?x ecosystem).

Tuesday, 17-Apr-12 01:10:12 UTC from IdentiCurse
    14. @widget I prefer .tar.xz for my own transfers across machines, and .tar.bz2 for stuff going outside of my control. There might be a few systems still not capable of understanding .bz2, but it's low enough in my experience that I'm willing to take that risk in return for the somewhat better compression.

Tuesday, 17-Apr-12 01:14:15 UTC from IdentiCurse
    15. @widget Thing with this kind of arguments, is that they are pretty much like car arguments. It's like saying "Don't use that '70s car, there are newer cars that use less fuel and do less noise" But the thing is, I like that '70s car, I always used it, I know what it will do in any given circumstance, and I know how to fix anything that might break. Yeah, I could buy one of those new cars, but they're ugly, weak, unnecesarily complex, I need to bother in buying one, and I can't easily fix them. The '70s one is more than I need. There's no point in buying another ne just because it's sopposedly better.

Tuesday, 17-Apr-12 01:16:05 UTC from web
    16. @widget Then again, for IdentiCurse tarballs, I go with both, just because it's pretty easy, and gives people the option to get the smaller one if they can read it, but still have a gzipped one if they really need it.

Tuesday, 17-Apr-12 01:16:28 UTC from IdentiCurse
    17. @widget But I'm not going to give my car to most people, just to a couple of friends and relatives. See what I'm going? I don't need more than what I have.

Tuesday, 17-Apr-12 01:18:43 UTC from web
      1. @nerthos @widget Heh. I'm trying REALLY hard not to jump in this argument. You guys have NO clue. <_>

Tuesday, 17-Apr-12 01:20:47 UTC from web
        1. @minti Jump! More gas for the flames! xD

Tuesday, 17-Apr-12 01:22:26 UTC from web
    18. @widget I think the problem here might be that you tend toward idealism, and @nerthos tends toward pragmatism, and neither of you are going to persuade the other of your side when you have different criteria for which compression is "better".

Tuesday, 17-Apr-12 01:20:53 UTC from IdentiCurse
    19. @widget It's not about wich one is older. It's about wich one I feel more confortable with and like the most. You're a deeloper. You actually HAVE a reason to give stuff to people. I don't. Most files will be created for personal use.

Tuesday, 17-Apr-12 01:21:44 UTC from web
    20. @widget RARs Are My Favorite Compression Format.

Tuesday, 17-Apr-12 01:23:28 UTC from web
    21. @widget And you'll be all like, "RAR! Y u post .RARs on the internet!? RAR!!"

Tuesday, 17-Apr-12 01:23:51 UTC from web
    22. @widget BRB, uploading many RARs. Lol.

Tuesday, 17-Apr-12 01:23:58 UTC from web
    23. @widget That's what I mean, that you both have different criteria for what's "better" to you (convenience vs. compatibility). With that difference still unresolved, actual quality of compression algorithm doesn't even come into it.

Tuesday, 17-Apr-12 01:25:19 UTC from IdentiCurse
    24. @widget You'd Better See What I Was Did There! I Also Have No Idea Who You are.
