  1. # you can explain a million things you like about the show, but you will never be able to properly explain why you love it.

    1. @alargesmallhorse It's something that can't be conveyed easily through words. It's like describing the taste of salt to somepony who's never tasted it before.

      1. @pony Well it's one of those things where it's just unexplainable. It's more along the likes of how you will love a food, but someone else will hate it. You can explain all the flavors and you can explain the texture and everything, but they will never really understand why you like it. It's a personal preference I suppose.

        1. @alargesmallhorse I think you're right. I've taken a stab at explaining why the show has a large fan community, but in the end it's a personal thing. https://docs.google.com/document/d/183nA78rz96qAq3xcKuUdSpmzvz3CYSysD_Thwi14fh0/edit

          1. @pony When it's time for my paper I will just ask you and add the answers as an attachement. Some empirical data can't hurt.

            1. @hakupony sure! I hope it goes well for you. :)

              1. @pony My professor has yet to agree on the topic, but I've already got a plan how to approach ot.

                1. @hakupony My instructor absolutely loved the idea. he used my topic as an example for the class throughout the semester. It put a lot of pressure on me to do my best.

                  1. @pony Well, my professor is doing research about sex and gender in internet o I too have a bit of weight on my shoulders.

                        1. @hakupony I was kidding! I just meant that his 'researching sex and gender on the internet' could easily be misread!

                        1. @hakupony though I didn't have the space to go into it at all, I included a source in my works cited that sounds relevant to that. It's called, "Internet Culture Influence and Strategy for Political and Ideological Education."

Sunday, 22-Apr-12 11:42:50 UTC from web
                          1. @hakupony but it's from a journal called Asian Social Science so I don't know if it fits for European and American culture

Sunday, 22-Apr-12 11:44:26 UTC from web
                            1. @pony It's even more confusing when you consider that "Asian" general has a different connotation in Europe or America. In the UK, "Asian" tends to refer to someone with an Indian, Pakistani, Bangladeshi heritage, whereas in the states, its more associated with a Japanese or Chinese heritage.

                            2. @pony I'll look into some of your sources but I must hold myself back. I neet theories from Foucault, Butler and Dawkins, a youth study and an approach on what social pedagogics actually is before I can even get started wih MLP and it's effects.

                                  1. @hakupony My class was a general/core class so I had a lot of liberty. I hope you enjoy writing about it in any case!

Sunday, 22-Apr-12 11:59:36 UTC from web
                                    1. @pony Tbanks. It's not about liberty but size. 10-15 pages are quite a limitation if you start with postmodern gender theory and power theory, then proceed explaining the internet, describing what MLP is and then getting to your pont.

Sunday, 22-Apr-12 12:02:06 UTC from web
                                      1. @hakupony I was surprised to find myself limited by 12-15 pages for my assignment as well. I thought that would be enough, but it turned out i spent a lot of that space building up a foundation for why the show appealed to our demographic before even getting to my main point about the beneficial impact of the fandom.

                2. @hakupony When I pitched the idea to my instructor I told him that lately I'd been into the show My Little Pony. He was like, "what?!" Then I explained bronies to him and played a clip from Teens React to Bronies for him.

      1. @pony I'm the complete opposite of that, I want my works to be awesome. Not because of the grades but because I want to be proud of what I've done. i had to write an Essay which I just had to pass. I restarted that thing three times until I was satisfied.

Sunday, 22-Apr-12 12:12:45 UTC from web
        1. @hakupony This is one essay I sincerely worked on and wanted to be proud of, but in the end I feel like I just lack the focus it takes. I have a prescription for Ritalin, but, despite how it helps my focus, it makes me moody which bothers my wife a lot, so I only take it as necessary. In any case I think I did better than average work on my brony paper, though it's definitely not perfect.

    9. @greydragon412 that sounds like it would fun, plus I've read about glitches that only the japanese versions can perform.. and the alternate sprite art would be awesome
