Are Fallout 1/2 fans ever going to get their heads out of their asses? Seriously. I think it's time to stop being butthurt about Fallout 3 not being a low-res Isometric turn based RPG.
-
@ceruleanspark The problem is that some people liked the series for its setting, and some liked it for its gameplay. The latter are "abandoned" by the shift that FO3 and on made. There's some element of a valid complaint there, but when they act like they're entitled to have it their way... :/
-
@bitshift Earlier today I had someone tell me that 3 and NV "aren't canon". Where do THOSE idiots fall on the spectrum?
-
@ceruleanspark "Reality-impaired".
-
@ceruleanspark I do wonder if they're aware that the "original FO3" (Van Buren) was going to (at least as far as I can see) make largely the same genre/perspective shift, though.
-
@bitshift I think they're just mad because FO3 and NV were popular and they didn't feel unique and special anymore.
-
@ceruleanspark it stopped being hipster, basiclly.

@bitshift Eh, I never played FO1 or FO2 and I still vastly preferred FONV to FO3. FO3 got really damn boring about halfway in.

@toksyuryel Oh, no doubt. FO3 held my attention the first time through, but having played NV, there's just too many little things I miss from NV. Also, the wider story appeals to me much more (especially how the DLC is mostly self-contained stories, but little things tie them together).
-
@bitshift The thing mostly being Ulysses.
-
@ceruleanspark Yes. It's quite nice that most of the stories have little hooks in the pre-DLC game, too (most recently noticed one: Veronica's mentions of someone who would seem to be Christine), since it makes it pretty clear that the whole story was mostly there from before the DLC came out.
-
@bitshift She also talks pretty frequently about Elijah himself, she even mentions the holorifle. The guy in Primm mentions that the courier before you "Saw your name on the list and said "let Courier 6 carry the package"". I still wonder what Ulysses asked the Think Tank that crashed them so badly they had to partition it out of their memory.
-
@ceruleanspark I also like how they just nonchalantly drop in that Veronica loved a girl, rather than handling it like "OH LOOK WE PUT A LESBIAN IN, WE'RE SO EDGY". (Also Veronica is basically the best main-game companion/follower/whatever the proper term is meant to be.)
-
@bitshift It was the same with Arcade being gay. He just drops "What lucky bachelor would want me" into conversation.

@ceruleanspark Yep. Though I've only recruited him on female playthroughs so far, so it's only via the Vault wiki that I'm aware of that.
-
-
@bitshift Also no. ED-E is best follower. No exceptions.
-
@ceruleanspark true, when other followers spot a foe they charge it, when ED-E spots a foe he TRUMPETS LIKE A BOSS
-
@zennx With the theme song from his favourite TV show, no less.
-
-
@ceruleanspark Oh, good point. Okay, best non-robotic follower.
-
@bitshift If you are doing long range then Cass, if you are close then Veronica
-
@zennx If you're playing Long Range, why would you NOT use Boone. Boone is a goddamn boss.
-
@ceruleanspark true but 2 long range char are redundant, I like to keep it balanced, I go long ED-E goes mid, Cass goes Short with the shotgun
-
-
-
-
@ceruleanspark Also I'm currently rolling with Veronica/ED-E. Best team, hands down.
-
@bitshift Boone/ED-E is lethally effective.
-
@ceruleanspark True. There's a certain visceral thrill in watching Veronica punch everything to death, though.
-
@bitshift I prefer the Zen calm of centering something in a crosshair.
-
@ceruleanspark I'm more a katana/ripper guy, now that I have GRA installed. Kinda nice to have something that doesn't run out of ammo.
-
@bitshift I have a Protonic Inversal Axe that I'm pretty fond of. That, combined with my array of energy weapons is generally good for what ails me. (Other people who are alive)
-
@ceruleanspark Protonic Inversal Axes are certainly good, but I'm 99% sure you can't get them especially early in the game.
-
@bitshift They're OWB only. Carried by Lobotomites.
-
@ceruleanspark Yes. Which means you can't practically get them before level 15 or thereabouts (from experience, the lowest level OWB can safely be started at).

-
@bitshift My mom made a char called "Hulker" that only used his raw fists and explosives, and it actually worked

-
@ceruleanspark Yep. I think the trio of Elijah/Christine/Ulysses have some impact pretty much throughout, with the exception of Honest Hearts, which is pretty disconnected (except Ulysses later turns out to be linked to the White Legs), except where Joshua Graham ties into the wider story.
-
@bitshift Josh pretty explicitly alludes to Ulysses pretty much as soon as you meet him when he says "Not the courier I was expecting, but I suppose he wouldn't travel with a caravan"

@bitshift so what I get from this is that new Vegas is better than 3. hm. I've been lookin to buy a new game for a while...

@techdisk42 Both have their own values, but NV is a definite gameplay improvement over 3, as well as having more replay value. 3 is much more dark, and IMO, atmospheric though.
-
@techdisk42 There's nothing especially wrong with 3, but yeah, if you're only going to get one of them, I'd say go with NV. (Try to get the ultimate edition if you can, though, since the DLC is most definitely worth it.)
-
@bitshift I'll look into getting it for PC. I'll have to force myself not to watch an LP of it till I get it or decide not to, or I will ruin it for myself like I did with so many other games...
