@techdisk To comment that I'd have to know in what generation you were born in. But you're mostly too late to roam the middle ages and too early to explore the depth of space.
Thursday, 01-May-14 17:40:39 UTC from web-
@anima i was born 1995 and basically everything I have an interest in is from before that year. Like DOS and the NES.
Thursday, 01-May-14 17:43:41 UTC from web-
@techdisk Well a NES and it's games are quite still there, ready for you to buy. They aren't as expensive as a PS4, so there you go. I was born a year later, and didn't realise how big the thing of my Grandmother selling our NES was until it was too late. But I've still got 2 N64 and a 3DO (Don't tell me it's a bad console, it was great ;n;) lying here.
Thursday, 01-May-14 17:46:15 UTC from web-
@anima But do you have a Dreamcast?!
Thursday, 01-May-14 17:47:31 UTC from web-
@redenchilada No. And to be honest, I was never into Sega that much. I mean Nintendoes what Sega don't (This quote is historically incorrect, and I am sorry. But I grew up to love Nintendo, and I am raised to be very loyal. May they mess up nowadays, they still got at least one person who is thrilled to see what's next)

@anima You have horrible taste in retro games then. Get a Genesis, scrub
Thursday, 01-May-14 17:51:31 UTC from web-
@redenchilada Genesis emulator+lookalike controller master race
Thursday, 01-May-14 17:52:54 UTC from web-
@nerthos I bought my mom a Genesis for Christmas and it's her favorite thing now
Thursday, 01-May-14 17:53:34 UTC from web-
@redenchilada That's actually pretty cool
Thursday, 01-May-14 17:55:24 UTC from web-
@nerthos I know. We actually got her to go voluntarily to a used game store because she wanted to find the old Sonics and Columns and Lion Kings for it too

@redenchilada Because we obviously can ignore what Mario did for the gaming industry? Because we can ignore how Super Mario 64 brought us one of the first amazing 3D enviorments? Because we can ignore how Zelda influences works so much still today? Because we can ignore how Metroidvania is still a thing? This heart, it beats for ye olde heroes, which may make repetitive games nowadays, but they are good - viewed from a game design-ish position: Mario does everything right. It introduces new mechanics slow paced and in a good way.
Thursday, 01-May-14 17:54:26 UTC from web-
@anima SM54 sucked
Thursday, 01-May-14 17:55:50 UTC from web-
@nerthos Well yeah, but not for it's time
Thursday, 01-May-14 17:56:29 UTC from web-
@anima IT's bad compared to games released in the same year, and years before.
Thursday, 01-May-14 17:58:46 UTC from web-
@nerthos What, like Superman 64? Kappa
Thursday, 01-May-14 18:00:13 UTC from web-
@flamingpandaomg I never actually played that one, but the only part that had some semblance of fun in SM64 was the level where you could slide down a snowy ramp.
Thursday, 01-May-14 18:01:41 UTC from web-
@nerthos I'm pretty sure your idea of fun and almost anybody else's idea of fun is much more different than it would be compared to anyone else.
Thursday, 01-May-14 18:02:31 UTC from web-
@flamingpandaomg Oh, there was also the pre-start screen part where you'd kiwi up Mario's face. That was amusing as a kid.

@nerthos Yeaaaah but it changed the gaming industry. In some way or anohter.
Thursday, 01-May-14 18:01:37 UTC from web-
@anima ET for the Atari also changed the game industry.
Thursday, 01-May-14 18:02:23 UTC from web-
@nerthos But Mario 64 had better sales
Thursday, 01-May-14 18:02:47 UTC from web-
@anima Pretty much any game ever produced had better sales compared to ET.
Thursday, 01-May-14 18:03:28 UTC from web-
@flamingpandaomg Well, the WiiU probably hadn't
Thursday, 01-May-14 18:04:54 UTC from web-
@anima The Wii U most definitely has had more sales than ET. That's not even funny.
Thursday, 01-May-14 18:05:21 UTC from web-
@flamingpandaomg I actually like the Wii U but it fails, big time.
Thursday, 01-May-14 18:05:49 UTC from web-
@anima I like the Wii U too, but the console in and of itself is actually sound. It's suffered in sales but now it has a decent library that's only growing and has made it completely worth getting, especially once Mario Kart 8 comes out the end of this month and Smash comes out this Winter.
Thursday, 01-May-14 18:07:16 UTC from web-
@flamingpandaomg Or the Wind Waker reboot, and I wouldn't have thought but the Cat-Mario game is actually great too. Though I think the new DK sucks... Zombie U was nice, though not worth the buying. There are great party games too.
Thursday, 01-May-14 18:08:33 UTC from web-
@anima Windwaker HD's already been out for a while.
Thursday, 01-May-14 18:08:53 UTC from web-
@flamingpandaomg Yeah I know. Oh boy, just remembered I never played it through, I stopped like at the second last dungeon because I lost interest. Damn attention span-

@flamingpandaomg Not PS3 games though, since there's none.

@anima Regardless, both had a big impact on the industry.
Thursday, 01-May-14 18:03:29 UTC from web-
@nerthos Though I have to point here that Valve had one of the biggest impacts on gaming, in the new era of gaming.
Thursday, 01-May-14 18:04:24 UTC from web-
@anima Valve is nice, even if I don't like Steam.
Thursday, 01-May-14 18:05:14 UTC from web-
@nerthos Steam is the sole reason indie games had such a boom. Steam did it before it was cool
Thursday, 01-May-14 18:06:16 UTC from web-
@anima That has nothing to do with why I don't like Steam
Thursday, 01-May-14 18:06:57 UTC from web-
@nerthos I know, I just like throwing pieces of knowledge in there.

@nerthos Sounds like some Taiwanese knockoff of Super Mario 64

@anima Look man I have some N64 games I like too but Crash Bandicoot > Super Mario 64 in every way and you won't tell me otherwise
Thursday, 01-May-14 17:55:58 UTC from web-
@redenchilada Yeah but... The Legend of Zelda and stuff...
Thursday, 01-May-14 17:56:58 UTC from web-
@anima I never liked OoT or Zelda in general. It's the epitome of lack of guidance in a game, and not in a fun way.
Thursday, 01-May-14 17:58:10 UTC from web-
@redenchilada Blasphemy! Also I didn't think the Sega consoles had such a good start in Germany as the Nintendo ones did. On every yard sale I see tons of Nintendo stuff and very few Sega stuff. Been looking for Sega consoles some time now
Thursday, 01-May-14 18:01:12 UTC from web-
@anima I've tried to play three or four Zeldas and never found the second dungeon in each
Thursday, 01-May-14 18:13:07 UTC from web-
@redenchilada Well, then try to play wind waker, it's considered one of the best!
Thursday, 01-May-14 18:14:10 UTC from web-
@anima That was one of the ones I tried to play
Thursday, 01-May-14 18:15:08 UTC from web-
@redenchilada Okay: How did you manage to NOT find the second dungeon?
Thursday, 01-May-14 18:15:47 UTC from web-
@anima I don't remember. It might've just been that I lost interest playing the game. It wasn't bad for a Zelda title though.

@anima @redenchilada Actually yeah, Wind Waker is maybe the one game in the saga where it is most clear where you need to go next.

@anima ooo 3DO. That's where the first Need For Speed came out. Called "the need for speed"

@techdisk You complain about being interested in things from 10 years before your birth, most of my interests are based around stuff from 1500-400 years ago. Get on my level.
