Welp. I now have 3 PlayStations. One doesn't work, one was modchipped when I bought it and works perfectly in all aspects, and one really only works as an audio CD player. Which, frankly, it is very good at. All in all, I have a PlayStation in my basement for games, and one in my bedroom for music. And one sitting in a corner gathering dust because it dun borked.

@techdisk Gut it and put a NES or something into it. :p

@scribus ehh, maybe. What I really did was gut it and put the broken PS1 into it. The reason was simple: I already had the dead PS1 beforehand, but it was contained inside an absolutely /pristine/ case. The one that works perfectly looks like it was left in a toilet overnight. I swapped the main boards so the outside matched the inside. And now i have a pristine condition PlayStation sitting on my shelf beside a SNES.

@techdisk That's pretty cool, too.

@scribus if only I could find a way to shove a PS3 into a PS1... now THAT would be sweet.

@techdisk Dude, that would be!

@scribus but yeah, the most likely course of action is cleaning, then painting. If it turns out really well, I might transfer the working parts back into their original home and use the pretty PS1 as my main gamer, then display the pristine case somewhere because its pretty in a different way.

@scribus to be honest, i'm probably going to do a huge cleanup job of the toilet ps1 and then paint it all pretty with ponies. It still won't work, but it will be nice to look at, i guess.

@techdisk stuff a Raspberry Pi into it
Saturday, 14-Jun-14 04:47:40 UTC from web-
@thewaifutyphoon but that's so boring. The Pi is so small it would just fit in there and rattle around. Might as well just use the case i have that's designed for it and keeps it much safer.

@redenchilada ooo now there's an idea.

@techdisk A zillion bonus points if you can wire it up to feed PS1 controller inputs to the games.

@redenchilada oh if only. i would say I should put a Dreamcast in there, but let's be honest, the Dreamcast should just stay as it is. I wish I had one...
Saturday, 14-Jun-14 04:58:48 UTC from web-
@techdisk I wish I had a third one. (My first doesn't read discs any more and probably got left behind in a move, and my second one won't read Shenmue for some odd reason even though other Dreamcasts do.)

@redenchilada I need to build up a larger collection of systems. I mean all my Nintendo stuff is nice and all, but I've never really sat down and played Sonic, like, ever. My childhood was so deprived.

@techdisk The Dreamcast is literally the only old console I own aside from my GBA. My brother owns an N64 and my mom has a Genesis in storage, though.

@redenchilada or, even better, a Saturn. Then I can giggle at my own stupidity.
