@rarity the fact that gender identity is so hard to understand makes it hard for people to understand themselves. Using tearms like cis just separates people from understanding the issue and understanding themselves

@vcgriffin But... cis is a really simple term in definition. It just means someone who identifies with their actual sex. Not complicated at all, in fact it's probably the least complicated part of the various queer/trans identities.

@mrmattimation @rarity sure a person works. I don't think cis works because I don't even think it's a real word and b) it implies that a "normal" person is happy the way they were born. And no one is happy the way they are born. That's the human condition.

@vcgriffin "Cis" is a prefix meaning "on this side of", just as "trans" is a prefix meaning "on the far side of". If the latter can be used alone, I see no reason why the former can't.

@thelastgherkin I think because the tearm has very little application outside of the narrow gender identity feild. (Not going to be talking about cis station this side of the trans Siberia railroad)

@vcgriffin I think that's probably a cultural thing. Despite sex education at puberty, I was part of a class who had never heard the word "heterosexual" until age 15/16. It's like, hetero and cis are the 'defaults', so they don't get their terms mentioned all the time.

@vcgriffin well, that's the way I meant it. And I know it is cumbersome, but IDK a better way to say it. You can't say "normal" because that's kind of offensive so a short word is probably the best way to do it honestly
