    1. @mrdragon Hello. I mostly use Debian-based boxes, but I'm curious whether there are any advantages to using Fedora-based distros. Any input on this?

      1. @loveydoe If you use Fedora you get to be enlightened by your own intelligence and euphoric

        1. @rarity I thought only Arch and source-based distros could do that. ;-D

          1. @loveydoe I've actually only ever used Ubuntu and that was only for like a day

        1. @redenchilada I had a Gentoo phase long ago, but I'm back in the groove of binary packages these days. Do you use it?

          1. @loveydoe I don't really use Linux except for running CentOS on a VPS. Install Gentoo is a joke

      3. @loveydoe Hmm, hard to say really. CentOS is more widely supported for Web Based control panels. Likes of Plesk and cPanel. I've been waiting for 7 to come out as it fixes an issue where the glibs have been out of date for way to long, which impaired the hosting of many game servers I wanted to. This new 7th version fixes all that and brings us in line with other distros such as Ubuntu 13+ and such.

Really it's down to personal choice, I simply use it as I don't have the time of day to learn how to set up web servers from scratch and rely on Plesk.

        1. @mrdragon I'm a fan of gNewSense and Debian. Debian has conservative, slightly old, but stable packages, and gNewSense is almost the same, except it uses an even older version of Debian as a base, and strips out all non-free software components. Some people don't agree with a strict free software ethic, but it all suits my computers well enough.

          1. @loveydoe Hmm, I haven't honestly seen much in the ways of problem ware with CentOS. Mainly due to it's structure and usage with website hosting etiquette and the likes. It's YUM repository is quite extensive but integrating additional RPM's is a doddle as we all know. Again it's really down to what you want to use.

My boxes sit in France in a hosting centre with OVH there so I don't deal with anything desktop wise, whilst OVH are wonderful enough to provide a free Virtual Desktop to remote in to, I find that it's just as easy to manage with the SSH.
