    1. @northernnarwhal Well, I'd say Mozart has the advantage, since back then they used partitures and orchestras, and now they use CDs. So as far as stacking volume goes Kayne would have a hard time to top Mozart.

      2. @nerthos >now they used CDs
They still do, but it's a diminishing medium. This isn't the 90s, Nerthos.

        1. @northernnarwhal What do they use now, then? DVDs?

Wednesday, 23-Jul-14 00:26:42 UTC from web
          1. @nerthos Digital is the most modern medium. FLAC, V0, 320 kbps loss mp3, etc. This isn't to say CDs aren't used today though, just that they're not the most modern medium.

            2. @northernnarwhal You can't put a digital download on a shelf for it to look pretty so might as well torrent it at this point.

              1. @nerthos I'm actually more of a vinyl person myself.

                    1. @northernnarwhal >Assuming I don't know mangoes about vinyls
The 70s were the last time they were prominent.

                      1. @nerthos No, actually, they're still widely popular and used for new albums constantly. It seems like you're kinda outta the loop here.

                        1. @northernnarwhal They're only popular among music buffs. No normal person buys a vinyl, people go for either CD or digital.

                          1. @nerthos 1) You assume music fans are a niche market, they're not. It's a very large collective.
                            2) There are plenty of older fans getting their kids into vinyl, even though they aren't music buffs. My friend doesn't really listen to much stuff outside what his dad got him into but he has plenty vinyls of his favourites like AC/DC and Jimi Hendrix.
                            3) This isn't to say vinyl is the leading medium, but it's far from obscure. Millions upon millions of vinyls are sold every year.

                              1. @nerthos There are too normal people who buy vinyl, they just might not have a massive collection.

                            2. @northernnarwhal I really, really want to set up my own record player (because I know my parents have one in a closet), but we have like zero records.

                              1. @techdisk My favourite shop in the downtown Toronto area is one called "Sonic Boom". It's near Honest Eds, you can't miss it. Really huge selection of records there, I always find something interesting.

                                1. @northernnarwhal i'll keep that in mind.

Wednesday, 23-Jul-14 00:45:33 UTC from web
                                  1. @techdisk (Not I'm saying you should go there or anything, but if you ever, for whatever reason, want to buy a vinyl, that place gets my recommendation)

Wednesday, 23-Jul-14 00:46:33 UTC from web
                                    1. @northernnarwhal well considering the fact i'm going to be setting up that record player one way or another, i'll be needing records for it. but again, I don't think some altec lancing computer speakers are going to be even close to being good enough.

Wednesday, 23-Jul-14 00:48:19 UTC from web
                                      1. @techdisk Yeah, there are a few good speakers I could potentially recommend. Wharfedale and Klipsch immediately come to mind as far as quality brands are concerned.

Wednesday, 23-Jul-14 00:53:15 UTC from web
                                        1. @northernnarwhal yeah I've heard Klipsch are very, very good. Maybe I can trade in these very old broken cabinet speakers I have for some decent stuff. The cabinets are being used as a pair of small side tables right now anyway.

Wednesday, 23-Jul-14 00:56:51 UTC from web
                                          1. @techdisk Yes, I don't own any myself but I've heard Klipsch and can confirm they are some of the best speakers I've ever heard.
