    2. @northernnarwhal tbh I got PS+ entirely because I wanted to try out DmC but didn't want to pay 60 dollars for a game I expected to hate.

      1. @ellieellie I saw gameplay and reviews and it just seemed like a game I wasn't gonna like and didn't really feel like trying it in general.

        1. @northernnarwhal I actually ended up loving the game. It really is just a hack and slash game, and as a rule of thumb, I don't like hack and slash games unless they're Devil May Cry. I'm a huge Devil May Cry fangirl, and that's why I expected to hate the reboot, because the trailers and demos and everything made it seem all wrong.

          1. @ellieellie Well I liked the early DmC games but I just couldn't stand how Dante's character was handled. And from what I saw the gameplay was generally a lot more dry than in previous installments.

            1. @northernnarwhal Handled in the new one, that is.

            2. @northernnarwhal The trailers did a horrible job of showing the gameplay. I actually found it to be really enjoyable. Dante's character was handled poorly because it was meant to be a very young Dante, and in that regard it makes some sense. His hair color drove me mad though. My biggest issue through most of the game was Vergil rather than Dante.

              1. @ellieellie DMC3's Dante was young dante, so how can it go from so wrong to so cool in a few years of aging tops?

                1. @nerthos Well because he's already fairly close to DMC3 Dante by the end of the reboot game

                  1. @ellieellie Reboot more like renot.

              2. @ellieellie Well, to be fair, it makes sense in character but it doesn't make it any less annoying.

                1. @northernnarwhal Yeah. Vergil on the other hand is an absolute saint through the entire goddamn game until the epilogue which is upsetting and wrong.

                  1. @ellieellie Yeah, I didn't know that but that doesn't sound like the Vergil I know and love. I would've been upset with that in game if I played it.

                    1. @northernnarwhal # At the end of the game, after the final boss fight, Vergil suddenly decides he's a villain. It's not exactly /poorly/ done, but it's unecessary. If this game was actually the first DmC game, it would have been a really nice and interesting twist, but since it's a reboot of a beloved franchise, it winds up being something that everyone knew (or at least hoped) would happen.

                      1. @ellieellie Apparently the main villain in the new DmC is supposed to be like the media or something too? Something kinda dumb along those lines from what I know.

                      1. @ellieellie Sequel? cherries you, Capcom.

                        1. @nerthos I honestly didn't hate the game. Maybe I just have understandably low standards with Capcom franchises these days.

                          1. @ellieellie I simply cannot understand WHY Capcom does the thing. Every single franchise they own, eventually they ruin, without any semblance f regret, and without any sort of justification or reason.

Friday, 05-Sep-14 23:21:55 UTC from web
                            1. @nerthos Yep. It's what they live for, really. I thought the DmC reboot was enjoyable, fun gameplay, mediocre story, fairly poor characterization through 90% of the game, but I didn't /hate/ playing it. Though the games have been getting progressively worse since DMC 4 so the next game is probably gonna be god awful.
