  1. Don't you love political adverts and how they pick the stupidest expression possible for the one they sling faeces towards?

    1. @hawloween Oh, man. I'm going to be listening to nothing but CDs in my car until the election's over.

                1. @righteousnarwhal Did they meet with any success?

                  1. @scriboos Back in the day, yes. There were a few of them around. I knew him way after he retired though, and he only worked locally. He had a book store, everyone called him Dodito, old and nice guy, always respectful, parents always stopped to talk with him when I was a kid. Used to buy books and stuff almost exclusively from him since you could ask him to get a specific book you wanted and he'd tell you when it arrived. Died not too long ago. http://rainbowdash.net/attachment/790020

                    1. @righteousnarwhal OK, I guess I could see local-level being better.

                      1. @scriboos Yeah, local level doesn't necessarily require doing and calling in favors from unsavory types.

                        1. @righteousnarwhal And actually having a face-to-face relationship with some of the people you're accountable to is better for keeping accountability than just knowing as an abstract that you represent "some people, somewhere."

                          1. @scriboos Yep. Many of the honest guys, like the one I mentioned, get voted because everyone in town knows and trusts them rather than due to publicity and backing. We did have a really honest president over here, who left office at the end of his period with only a couple thousand dollars on clothes and basic living stuff as his only belongings. He isn't too remembered though, everyone remembers the bad ones. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arturo_Umberto_Illia
