                    @rarity I remember your being somewhat a Pontiac fan. I've been a Toyota fan ever since driving a V30 Camry around extensively. Some of the best cars ever made.

                                        @rarity And this one, despite not being a sporty transmission, shifts quickly, suddenly, and is very very easy to manipulate. The only real drawback for it is that 1st gear is so damned long. Funny thing is that these automatics are more accommodating to heavy power than the standard transmissions in these cars.

                                            @rarity considering you can give them 6+ selections in a smaller box, or use a CVT, standards are dying. Too bad, but that's just a nostalgic thing. I might be stupid enough to put a standard in the Avalon

                                                        @rarity All I have are pretty old ones right now, as of right now body wise I need to get under her petrol tank and repair rust, but that's the only bit of visible rust... she needs a new paint job, it'll be the same colours.                                                             @rarity Well, after I have everything for my planned engine rebuild/turbo conversion I'll take out all of that, dig deep into the body, remove/repair all of the rust, and send the rolling chassis to get painted proper, sealed up as permanent as I can make it.

                      @hawloween My 2008 Corolla is completely devoid of "bells and whistles," but it is utterly reliable and fuel efficient. I ditched American cars due to their lack of long-term reliability.

                        @m14brony The Camry I drove around had 300 000km on it and kept on trucking. I have a similar model year Avalon now with 180 000mi and is truly a terrific car.

                          @hawloween I believe my brother-in-law once had an older Toyota of some sort (Camry...not sure). It didn't develop any serious problems until it got past the 350,000 mile (560,000 km) mark.

                                      @rarity I had a 1995 GMC Jimmy that ran well for a couple of years, but it got to the point where it needed some sort of major repair almost every month. The engine was fine (I think it had around 140,000 miles or so on it), but it developed all sorts of other problems as I moved and regularly commuted 40+ miles a day to and from work.

                                      I had a 1986 Ford Bronco II before that. I had to replace the brake booster, but other than that, it never gave me any serious problems while I had it. It did develop a good deal of problems when it was passed onto one of my younger sisters, but then again, she neglected the hell out of it. It does make me wonder how much longer it would have lasted if it were properly maintained.

                                        @m14brony as far as I can tell usually GM is much much worse than Ford/Dodge in terms of longevity and overall quality so I understand the GMC problem

                                          @rarity Perhaps. I remember an uncle of mine saying "GM's aren't worth a mangoes." I think he ended up with a Toyota Highlander after having a bad experience with GM vehicles.
