  1. I actually showed Coutz the movie adaptation of John Dies At The End the other day and I think it broke him.

    1. @northernnarwhal Broke him in a good way?

      1. @scribus I think so, he was mostly just pretty speechless by the end of it. He's never read the book so this was all a first for him.

        1. @northernnarwhal Yeah, that's a pretty reliable response, it seems.

          1. @scribus I know it took a bit for me to process everything after I read the book for the first time. Especially the ending where you find out the body in the shed was the real Dave, and for a good half of the book we were reading through the perspective of "Monster Dave". #

            1. @northernnarwhal Yeah, that was kinda heavy. I like the implications about the human spirit or nature or whatever, though. Considering that the time they successfully made a reliably believable doppleganger of a person (as opposed to a big creepy wire doll), he still had the autonomy and will required to bring about Korrok's downfall.

              1. @scribus Oh yeah, that really tied things up in a nice way. I was a little disappointed they didn't work it into the film adaptation but it would've been difficult without all the added context the novel provided. On that note, I love how it related to the axe parable in the prologue, where the new Dave possess the form and memories of old Dave but not his physical body, so it begs the question as to just what made Dave "Dave".

                1. @northernnarwhal Oh, yeah, that's another good point. Wow, by the end I keep forgetting that that was even a theme. Haha, jeez.

                  1. @scribus I don't blame you, the narrative had enough ideas to fit into at least 12 books, so there's a lot of ground to cover.

                    1. @northernnarwhal But I read it so many times! Oh, well. Guess that's what discussing it with people is for, eh?

                      1. @scribus Yeah, with a book as unique as JDaTE a second opinion/interpretation is always great to have. Have you read This Book Is Full Of Spiders?

                        1. @northernnarwhal Yes, yes I certainly have. Only once, though. And I think one of my sister's friends is borrowing it at the moment? Anyway, yes. A very good one, and this time with seriously disturbing implications about human nature and potential. I mean, we have a world in which transdimensional monsters with goals and schemes far beyond our imagining are directly interfering with us and at times even overtly harming people, and yet the biggest threat was the human reaction.

                          1. @scribus Yeah, I really enjoyed it too. I didn't think a fresh take on the apocalypse genre was possible in 2012 but boy did that novel prove me wrong!

                            1. @northernnarwhal I wonder what the odds of it getting a film are. I feel like the first was successful enough for an indie horror/comedy to warrant one.

                              1. @scribus I personally think Spiders actually lends itself better to the context of a film too, as the story was a lot more linear than its predecessor. Fingers crossed!

                                1. @northernnarwhal There'd have to be a few changes to keep it in line with the first movie's changes, but I'm right there with you.

                                  1. @scribus Yeah, especially involving the fact that Bark Lee died at the end of the first film.
