@northernnarwhal as someone who lives incredibly close to Ferguson (Columbia Missouri) i was really impressed by that song truly capturing both the chaos and politics behind the Ferguson stuff.

@derpy128 Yeah, Killer Mike has never been afraid to touch on strong social issues and I'm really glad him and El-P wrote Early. I know in one interview he mentioned how he felt it was important to speak up about issues, especially those involving his race, because he was a figure in the public eye.

@northernnarwhal When hip-hop is done right, it is meant to convey deep social issues, and I think that Rage Against the Machine had always been about conveying a message, therefore the transition from Punk to Hip-hop was really easy. RTJ just dose an excellent job of conveying a message, and an important one.

@derpy128 Well, I mean hip hop songs aren't just political, they can be about a wide array of topics. A lot of hip-hop focuses on more interal issues of the speaker, and there's a whole bunch of abstract hip hop artists who write a bunch of stream of consciousness type stuff. Some guys just write bragadocious stuff too, which is great too as long as you're in the mood for it.

@northernnarwhal I can get behind some stream of conscious stuff. I gotta be in the mood though. I really don't listen to that much hip-hop and rap because there is just so much crap, and that's what gets played, but I'm starting to realize that it really dose have some cool stuff going on in it.

@derpy128 There's a lot of awful crap in every genre to be honest. You just have to have a willingness to explore if you want to expand your horizons.

@derpy128 I don't doubt that their message is important. It's just not important on a level that I personally care about as an artist. In my mind, everyone is already equal and I'm not one to fight for social justice because that never ends well on a legal standpoint, especially in the American judicial system. I have nothing to say about inequality or special treatment, probably because that's not been an important aspect of my life - for the most part.
