        @rednorth I can't think of another way they could've ended Death Note, it was a predictable ending but wasn't necessarily a bad one.

            @rednorth It's important because it relates to theme of moral hubris of playing God, as well as relating to the self deification symbolism correlating Light to Jesus therefore implying a figurative crucifixion of his character. Oh, and Ryuk literally foreshadowed it in the first episode. #

                @rednorth The bottom line was he was ultimately outsmarted and it all falls in place with the continuity of the show's themes and symbolism so it makes sense as an ending.
