    2. @mrmattimation Some 720p TVs will accept a 1080i signal and scale it down to the TV's resolution. My TV's only 720p but it'll let me send it a 1920x1080 signal from my laptop (and make it look really crappy in the process. I have it on 1600x900 to match the built-in screen and it still downscales a bit, but is much more tolerable)

      1. @redenchilada Nope, it looks just fine too. Blu-Ray player, HD DVR, and laptop have all displayed 1080p on it.

        1. @mrmattimation Pull up some text on the television and compare it to the laptop's screen. It gets really noticeable then.

      2. @redenchilada Some have weird things. My dad's TV is 1920x1080 but only accepts 1366x768 when working as a monitor with a computer as source.
